Slow and Slower

In Early August my Speeds were 1280 and 448 with an I/p profile of  1000 and actual speed of 888 this seemed fine for my distant line  To-day they are 1024 and 448 with an IP profile of 750 and an actual speed of 602 but it all seems much slower . The speed tester strugles to get to 400 and then shoots up to an unlikely 5000 Something is wrong somewhere  I have freqently tried to reboot to regain my former speeds  What can I do ?Huh

Maybe it is a fault at th exchange

Re: Speedy not

Which speedtester are you using?
If you have an IP Profile of 750Kbps, it is technically impossible to get speeds above that.
No matter how often you reboot, this will not impact your throughput speeds, however you should look out for the connection speeds that you're getting.  If you get a higher one, don't reboot again and your IP Profile will improve within a few days of stability.

Re: Slow and Slower

Thanks James Im useing the green plusnet one , but its the same on others ,They creep up to 400 or so slowly then leap to 5000 it was not doing this in August. How can I get my profile raised , my line is stable unless I get a power cut or go away, I think there may be an exchange fault or on the line as my results have deteriorated since August . and there is a red dot on the exchange profile ( that I can no longer find )

How frequently? Too often can/will be seen as a fault by BT's automated systems.
Your downstream SNRM of 10dB suggests some errors have been detected, though this is not an abnormal figure for a longish line.
Are your figures taken by connecting to the Test Socket, to elminate any internal wiring faults?

I only have the one socket with an adsl nation socket    and my telephone      This is a prety stable    connection When I use the plusnet speed tester it creeps slowly up to 4 or 5 hundred and then whizes round to an improbable 4to  5 thousand  Things were much better in August        This is now                                                                                                                                                            System Up Time 45:07:42

Re: Slow and Slower

So have you or have you not tried it in the Test Socket with nothing else connected?
Ideally do it unfiltered (adapter or RJ11/BT lead such as a modem cable or detachable phone cable) or use a "known good" plug-in filter (NOT your faceplate).
Your line attenuation looks odd, it's a very high ratio, usually nearer 2 not 4.

How distant exactly, do you know how far you are from the exchange?
Try here, and report back: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php

Re: Slow and Slower

like said before take the face plate of the master socket and plug direct into the test socket with or with out a plug in filter.
theres a reason its called a test socket it elmenates any interferece you might have from extesions coming of the master socket.
I had a wee sync speed problem but did not investagite it on the test socket as i have no extension. but the other day i gave it a go and saw a doubling in my sync speed. which leads me to think the contacts in the faceplate are worn or faulty and now plug my filter into the test socket till i can get a new face plate.

Re: Slow and Slower

Could be one of two things.
Broken faceplate or broken router.  Would definitely see if you could try testing them both out.

Re: Slow and Slower

The exchange is not actualy at Burrowbridge but almost n 2 miles further on and would be over 4 miles from my home as the poles go though 1.5 I am told is below ground I have removed the face plate and am on the test socket ,It would not work without a filter,I have less speed now but would get a better one early in the morning ,Ah  here it is better and this is why I have been discoonnecting

4 miles is further than ADSL normally reaches!
Almost anything could change things over that distance.
Maybe you should discuss with PN whether a fixed rate product would be better, e.g. 1mbps?
