Allowed 10 days of connection to see if speed increased but everything stayed the same (worse than the good old Dial-up days !)
Yesterday went through all the Plusnet suggested checks;
Confirmed Master socket use only by router (LJU type with junction box)
Changed microfilter
With just analogue touch phone did quiet line test (just feint buzz, guess normal and OK)
Connected laptop via Ethernet only.
Powered down and restarted router took same 15+ mins to sync.
Did BT Speed check – no speed change (IP profile raised to abt 0.5M)
Disconnected and changed router for new one:-
Powered up and waited 45mins for DSL Sync !
Did BT Speed check – no speed change (IP profile raised to abt 1M)
Put Plusnet supplied router back on :-
Powered up and waited 3hours for DSL Sync !!!
Now BT Speed check – Download 0.3M, Upload 0.53M
Looked at the router info which says we have Line Attenuation of 30dB (Up), and 63dB (Down)
Our neighbour is also with Plusnet has only 20dB and 40dB Line Attenuation, but more importantly has consistently over 5M Download speed and 1M Upload speeds.
I've raised a ticket last night but can anyone also shed light on this for us – it's been like living in the Dark Ages since Christmas !
Here is some info that may be of help;

The attenuation is showing this is potentially a long line, the error count is quite low and the SNR isn't at a concerning amount.
Quote With just analogue touch phone did quiet line test (just feint buzz, guess normal and OK)
How feint? The line should be pretty much silent.
Quote Confirmed Master socket use only by router (LJU type with junction box)
Is there no test socket available?
There have been a few disconnections on your line, yesterday afternoon/evening seemed to be the worst for it.

Thanks for prompt reply, will try and answer questions for you.
Quiet line test buzz is only just discernible, really have to make sure room is also quiet to hear it at all - no pop's, crackles at all.
No test socket sorry, master socket is from before the newer BT type with removable front panel (nothing else connected, and no feeds paralled up/ wired in)
Have checked with neighbours and are a mix of new Master's and older with ext microfilters - all don't have problems.
Disconnections yesterday / evening were me going through the checks I mentioned on the first post.
Can't fathom the 20+ dB Line attenuation difference between us and immediate neighbour though ? Both coming off the same post.
Hope it helps ?

Although the SN seems to have dropped lower from where it was with the 0.2M Download IP profile.

Is the Line attenuation value a measurement for the whole delivery network from Exchange to master box ?
And can anyone suggest why our down line attenuation should be 24dB worse than our immediate neighbour ? - when the up line is only 10dB worse

Your line is significantly below the estimates for your area and with what you've said below I'm hopeful we can make some improvements here for you.

Many thanks for getting back to me.
Just for information here is a copy of the neighbours Plusnet DSL connection, they have the same box as was supplied to us;
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.3
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1.119 / 6.383
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 512,50 / 1,94
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12,6 / 0,0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 20,6 / 40,5
Apart from the drastic difference in Bandwidth speeds, as i mentioned you can see their Line attenuation it's only about 10dB less on the Up but considerably more on the down side.
One interesting thing is that their router sync's in just a minute or so, instead of the 3hrs plus for us last time - guess that's down to the strength too though.
Again many thanks for your help.
Will now await the raised ticket reply.

Thank you so much for your initial help, and for the guides you do.
We had a BTW Engineer call today and all the problem was down to an old style filter in the junction box which was replaced. It appeared they were fitted as standard when the houses were built due to the relatively close proximity of a Medium Wave transmitter.
It was not compatible with BB and was fooling the system into thinking there was an excessive line length !
With an updated filter fitted we now have almost instant router sync, and a download speed in excess of 4M. This is compared to waiting over three hours for a sync last time and download speed of 0.15M !
Many thanks to PN for getting this sorted
