Slow Wifi speeds

Hey fellow plusnetters!
I have just got FTTC and I love it, However Im having issues with WIFI throughput.
On ethernet I get 4.4Mb/s easy. However over Wifi on my laptop I only get 2.5Mb/s. I got 3Mb/s ONCE changing the channel to 7 But Im just wondering what I can do?
I just recently ditched the 582n because Its cheap and nasty and got a WNR2000 but still the same issues... seems I lose 10 meg in speed over wifi...
My Cordless phone is near it but i still get same issue with it off.

Re: Slow Wifi speeds

Hi samperry209,
Have you tried using inSSIDer to see which channel is best you use? - http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

Re: Slow Wifi speeds

fiwiw, I presume you meant to quote 4.4 MBytes/sec as opposed to 4.4 Mbits/sec over ethernet?
In any case, what wifi card is fitted to your laptop?
If it is only an old 802.11g wifi card, it will max out at around 26 Mbits/sec

Re: Slow Wifi speeds

What wifi card is currently fitted?  (Intel 3945 ?)
You may be able to fit a better card...

Plenty of full height 5100 (512AN_MMW) cards (300mbps draft-N) on ebay pulled from old laptops.  Stay clear of any IBM/Lenovo branded ones to avoid issues.
