Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

After a few days of stability my connection has started to play up again.  A number of resyncs occured this morning leaving me with a pathetic 96Kbps upstream - can a Plusnet agent have a look at my line please? I've attached the stats from the router.

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

Hi there,
Not sure why the upstream sync is so low, but you've definitely had a flurry of disconnections on there that won't have helped anything:

In all honesty the best thing you could do would be to run through the usual fault checks again (filter, alt router if you have one, master socket etc) and raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net if they don't help.

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

Rebooting the router has brought speeds back to normal but it will almost certainly happen again eventually. This intermittent problem has been going on for over a year despite replacing the drop wire, replacing the master socket, replacing the router and plugging the router directly into the master socket.
I will raise a fault but at the moment all is stable and there is nothing to investigate!

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

You have my sympathy
I have exactly the same problem and despite several engineer visits it was never fixed so I gave up. An uncapped upstream was an unmitigated disaster so I went back to capped

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

My upstream is capped again now Oldjim.  Another drop this afternoon has reduced my downstream this time!  The problems always seem to coincide with very cold weather so I'll raise a fault in he hope that it stays cold for a few more days!

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

There's a line I am monitoring where a slow upstream seems to be associated with a bad contact.  Try ringing yourself up (which can temporarily clear the fault) then restarting the router.

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

Restarting the router has restored the upstream but I'm now on a 12dB margin which has significantly reduced my downstream of course.  My money is on a dodgy connection somewhere between my house and the exchange which gets worse when its very cold.  I've raised a fault so I'll see if they can find anything.

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

Raised a fault ticket and had a response today.  They have requested that interleaving be turned on.  Very strange as it is already on according to the router!
Meanwhile margin is 14dB and downstream very slow. At least the upstream is OK now.

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

Glad to hear that's improved. FYI I've checked and can see that the interleaving order completed at some point this morning.
BTW the line is definitely looking stable now too:

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

Hi Adam
So was interleaving actually off on my line?  I got a (spurious?) e-mail saying that I had requested it be turned off when I upgraded to Unlimited. I didn't request it and I assumed it wasn't processed. If interleaving was actually turned off it could explain some of the problems.
Downstream is still slow due to the 14dB SNR. Maybe its this thats providing the stability rather than turning on interleaving which I don't think was off anyway!

Re: Slow Upstream Sync Yet Again

Ah, yes it would have been due to a known problem (73795) which caused some spurious "modify" orders to be placed when upgrading to the new products.
Sorry if that left you scratching your head!
