Slow Ping Time

Getting a bit frustrated here.
Over the last few days I've been experiencing really slow ping time - currently averaging about 600ms but anything up to 2500ms.
I reported it and had an engineer come, but because I said in my report that the line wasn't clear, it got logged as a phone fault and he wasn't allowed to do any broadband type tests.  The line comes up as clear but I've still got the problem. Being a bit intermittent I wasn't able to demonstrate it to him either.
Is there anything that can be tested remotely or do I need to go through the whole reporting process yet again (seem to have to do this once a year)?

Hi McTed,
Can you plug you phone into the test socket on it's own and then check if there's any noise on the line? If you do have a noisy line then this will take precedence over your speeds being low. As the broadband is provided on the phone line, if there's a fault on the phone line itself then this will most likely be the reason for the problems you're experiencing with your broadband.

I thought it was noisy as it's not the clearest of lines, but the engineer said it was fine.  Nice bloke but he said he wasn't allowed to investigate the broadband as it had been registered as a phone fault.  Sad

I'm generating one of those ThinkBroadBand graphs to demonstrate the problem as I need to demonstrate that I really am suffering!

Can you perform a silent line test by dialing 17070 and then select Option 2?

Linn,  thanks for your prompt response, but you seem to be ignoring the fact that I said I've had an OpenReach engineer test the phone line this morning and find no fault with it.
This is what I'm suffering from:

Thank you for providing that information.
I'm sorry you feel that I'm ignoring what you've advised regarding the engineers visit.
Can you still perform the test so that we can ensure that you can't hear any noise on the line? We need to exhaust every avenue so that if we raise this to our suppliers we can confirm that this test has been performed if needed.

The engineer performed a quiet line test and a multitude of other tests and reported no fault with the line.

Okay, can you go ahead and raise a broadband fault and ensure that it's not closed so that it gives our Faults team a chance to investigate this for you?

Can you post your router stats (line attenuation/errors etc.)? They will be in the admin page of your router.
