Should the Plusnet Profile and the BT Profile always agree?

I've had differing profiles a few times. Of course it's only ever a small amount but why should they ever be different?
I'm not including catch up periods.
Like now my last drop ended up with a stated BT profile of 7.9. Plusnet has caught up but their profile is stated as 7.8.
As said only a small amount but why?

I think a more likely explanation is that Plusnet did not (yet) receive an update with the 7.9 profile, or if they did, they didn't process it. Traditionally the updates take a few days to arrive, so your DSL connection rate could have changed again before a profile update for the previous speed has reached Plusnet.

The previous profile was 8.0 up for 50 days with a matching Plusnet profile. I had a line drop and the BT profile changed to 7.9 and Plusnet changed after a while to 7.8.
So the question still remains.

billnotben - can you post your DSL stats please? And perhaps a screenshot from the BT speedtester further diagnostics?

Plusnet set the speed profile on the account at 3200kbps (which you can see in the member centre) and on the network at 3200kbps.

Plusnet profile of 7.8 is correct.

I can also understand that from a business point of view it makes sense to operate under a harsher criteria to save bandwidth where possible.
Maybe a name change is in order.

And so on the BT speed tester 7.896 is rounded up on the two decimal places, making it 7.9 (dropping the trailing zero).

Plusnet set theirs just below BT's to make sure that they can control the traffic to drop. If you are streaming, using VoIP or gaming and start a download the download will be restricted first so that the experience with the higher priority traffic is not affected.
Quite frankly I really cannot understand why you are making such an enormous fuss over a 1.2% difference! There's no way you could tell the difference in practice.
