I've just done a couple of speed tests, which clocked download speeds between 10 and 14mbs. My original Thomson TG585 v7 router is now quite old and apparently no longer sold, so would I do better to upgrade to a newer model that supports 802.11n or 802.11ac?

14Mb/s isn't far off what I'd expect to see as throughput for your line, the profile is currently set at 15600.
I have noticed that your upload speed is capped at 448k, so I'm going to place an order to remove the cap. This should complete on Monday.
Scratch that, it was just one of the notes on the account set wrong.

Thanks for that Chris. I'm actually quite happy with the speed I get, but an article I read suggested an updated router might make it even faster. I'll leave things as they are!

Remember that many articles are all about getting you to spend money.
The technology you've referred to might give you a faster Wi-Fi experience which can be beneficial if you do a lot of computer to computer transfers within the home using Wi-Fi, however if you predominantly only download, then you will be limited by the ADSL connection rate. If you changed to Fibre then there might be material benefit in buying a faster Wi-Fi capable device.
If it isn't broken, save your money!

Sound advice. Many of these so-called review articles have hidden agenda. To be fair the piece I read didn't plug a particular router, it was more about how the technology has improved in recent years. A neighbour has recently changed to BT Infinity, which he said is marvellous for streaming concerts etc, but his monthly cost is astronomical compared to my two-year discounted PN contract. I'll stick with what I've got.
