Just to let you know that on the 7th day god didn't create adsl2+  Smiley

Re: Should I be on ADSL2+ ?

Todays stats
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5568 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 24.0 db 14.0 db
Noise Margin 25.6 db 17.0 db

I presume by the change in connection speed that it's going to do the same 'training' of the adsl2 line as the previous one did, so whilst  current speed is down by about 2mbps, it should eventually raise. Am I correct in this assumption? Thanks again Smiley

Hi AB55,
With a sync rate of 5568 that should bring the profile to 4500.

Re: Should I be on ADSL2+ ?

With a noise margin of over 25dB, there certainly room for improvement of the speed of your line - perhaps somewhere in the 3M-5M region - although that depends on whether you've now been put onto ADSL2+ and the modem is using it.
There might be some training going on, but your line could also have been banded - which places restrictions on the speeds, and therefore tends to increase the noise margin higher than we see with the "standard" DLM on ADSL lines.
If you don't see increases soon, you might want Jojo to double-check this.

I won't  be able to make any changes during the training period but after that I can have it tinkered with if necessary.

Re: Should I be on ADSL2+ ?

Aye, we'll have to see how it goes. I remember in the initial training period, it began at 1.5mbps and within a couple of days was upto the 6.5 or so I'd had since. As was said earlier in the thread, there's definitely a chance that my stats would've given me a much better speed from being on adsl2+ so it's a case of patience & see how it goes.
What sort of Xmas break are you all getting, Jo? I can only imagine the hell you'll get when you have to return & pick up where you left off!

...between us we're covering all days apart from the weekends as usual. We've just worked it out so that we all get decent time off. Some days we're working from home so it's not like being in all the time.

Connection Speed    5568 kbps    448 kbps
Line Attenuation    24.0 db    14.0 db
Noise Margin    25.6 db    17.0 db

I'm sorry but there's something badly wrong here. The line used to synch at 8128k on ADSL1, with that attenuation it should be much higher on ADSL2+. It's only just been swicthed to ADSL2+ so there's no way it should be banded at this point in time.
It HAS been switched hasn't it Jojo ? since there's now way to tell from those stats.
That noise margin is way too high, have you tried a disconnect/reconnect to see if the stats change ( please post the stats immediately after the reconnect ).

Re: Should I be on ADSL2+ ?

HI AB55,
Hmm, a curious situation....
I've just been digging through the order and it appears that the order has not been able to be processed due to insufficient capacity. I've just ran a line check and see 8128k sync and 7150k profile, so I'm not sure why you should be seeing that connection rate on your router stats.

Re: Should I be on ADSL2+ ?

I dunno Jo, and I actually see now it back to 8218 myself now. What is meant by insufficient capacity? That we're unable to be on adsl2+?  If this is the case, I'm really mad at BT because it was their checking system that first set that hope, and then was followed up by yourselves, obviously acting on what their stats said.

I've not long (accidentally) hit the wrong switch on the wall & switched the router off. My current stats from it are these
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 23.0 db 14.0 db
Noise Margin 16.1 db 25.0 db

In order to go to ADSL2+ you will need to be switched to the 21CN network, I guess it means the exchange capacity on 21CN is not sufficient.
The availability checking system doesn't consider capacity, only possible speed. Roll_eyes

Re: Should I be on ADSL2+ ?

That's a pain but to be honest, nothing BT say or do surprises me, we had such bad service from them in the past that it's why we're looking at other ISPs to begin with. When we joined we had no idea that PN were affiliated to BT in any way, but thankfully with staff like Jo, it means that one of the things we suffered most from with BT which was poor & rude service isn't happening here.
As regards the provision of 21CN is there anyway that a waiting system exists, or could somebody stumble upon space on it in the future, despite people like us waiting for capacity?
I'd like to also apologise to Jo for her hard work which seemingly isn't going to come to fruition, despite it looking like they'd taken the order etc. Surely at some point there should have been someone who could've informed her that it wasn't going to happen for us, which would've saved a lot of time for all concerned.
