Hi to All,
I recently logged a broadband fault which was investigated and resulted in no fault being found and my line going back into training mode. I'd like to get a few opinions about the points below to see if it's worth pressing the issue further:
1 - Based on observation of environmental conditions and Router Stats logs, I have arrived at the conclusion that strong gusts of wind are responsible for causing my connection to drop. Time lag between strong gusts and connection drop is practically zero, suggesting a local wiring fault. Router Stats shows a stable snrm until the gust / drop, adding evidence to my conclusion. The telegraph pole wiring appears to be in poor condition when examined through binoculars. Would any of this be taken into consideration or is the customer always assumed to be dumb in these matters?
2 - After being perfect for several months, my connection started to drop on the first windy, rainy day for a while and following the fault finding procedure, my line was reset to training mode. Is it possible to define a static profile for my line? For example: What I most certainly do not want (and currently have) - 3db snrm, highest possible sync speed at any cost, interleave on. My line performs best for my use with these settings: 9db snrm, whatever sync speed that snrm can get (14 - 17k), interleave off. I pay for the pro add-on because 3 hardcore gamers live in my house. Seems pointless if I get an unstable connection. For me, stability and low latency > speed.
3 - Considering that this fault is probably related to highly localised environmental conditions, what are my chances of this being picked up as a real fault and repaired?
To recap: Perfect connection for months, first day of strong winds and loads of disconnections / noise, line goes to training mode, weather dies down, connection now ok but snrm too low to be stable and interleave turned on.
Although I am sure that my internal wiring and networking gear are top notch, I am more than happy to jump through any and all hoops required by PlusNet.
Thanks in advance!

I assume that you will already have jumped through the hoops with your previous/initial fault raised? - alternative filter, test socket, alternative modem/router etc. This is only for your own protection to make sure it's not your equipment/wiring at fault.
What you are describing clearly sounds like a line fault (who do you pay line rental to?) - either now or when the wind is blowing can you hear/have you heard crackling or other noises on the line when using the phone. Have you had any other problems with incoming or outgoing calls?
As far as the dsl settings go, yes you can have interleaving turned off permanently, and you can have a minimum Target SNRM set,. but I'd leave the SNRM until you've got your line issue sorted.
Do you have a current fault ticket open?

When you are seeing drops is there any noise on the phone line (dial 17070 option 2 for the quiet line test)?
If there is call whoever you pay for the phone rental and report a telephone fault, check if they can hear the noise and if so ask them to record that fact.
Edit: Two of us saying much the same thing at the same time!

There's every chance as long as the connection drops are frequent or at least happening to a sufficient degree to prompt changes via DLM which they are:

I'm not sure if you made any notes but let me know if you think any of those drops coincide with you noticing anything?
To log the fault just head to http://faults.plus.net and that will ask you a few questions and take you through a few things to check before we can log the fault with our supplier.

Adam, the link you've posted isn't a lot of use!

That's a very interesting link to the Visual radius log generation software there Adam, but I don't know what help it will be.
However
Surely, if this is an obvious line fault and can be identified as such, it's easier and quicker to get it dealt with as a phone fault? If past experience is anything to go by, days will be wasted by such things as " we've turned ojn interleaving on your line to try and stabilise things" and other similar responses on the ticket.

To which my response would be "I'm mystified as to how you think turning on interleaving will affect the weather and stop the wind blowing"

It's the fact that it's a dropping connection (caused by a phone fault )
