SNR spike causes speed to keep dropping until reset

Hi,
Over the past few weeks I have been experiencing several issues with my broadband dropping out. Reading other posts the problems seems to be very similar with others users.
I had a Openreach engineer out 2 weeks ago, could find no faults, and also did a lift & shift at the exchange. none of this seems to have fixed anything.
I have also finally been given all the router details from Plusnet to ensure that my router has all the correct settings. All this did was reduce my speed, which has now been put back up, but not to where it was previously.
I have been told my line is over performing, it keeps getting profiled, and still no resolution.
I am now switching back to my Plusnet router to see if my router is possibly at fault, but I can't see any logs on the Plusnet router, am I missing something, or does the Plusnet router not have a log.

Re: Broadband dropping out and no log on Plusnet router

I noticed the moderators are very keen to avoid your duplicate thread but not so keen to actually help you solve the problem in this one. In fact no-one has responded to you in 4 days it seems.
I'm sorry I can't help but I am interested to hear what PN has to say to you because I've seen a lot of people recently in this forum having similar disconnection problems and I wonder if the problem is with some part of their (ie PlusNet's)equipment. It annoys me that they first presume the fault is at the customer's end as in my experience it's usually the other way round.
Anyway I wish you luck in solving the problem. I've been having a few dropouts myself over the past few days but haven't raised the issue yet.

Daily drop out keeps changing speed

Hi,
After on going months of problems with Plusnet Broadband, I have finally seen some results. I am now only encountering one drop out per day, random time but always within 24-hours of the previous dropout. The router logs show the following;

Any suggestions?

Re: Daily drop out keeps changing speed

What do you mean expected? No other provider I have been with has ever told me daily drop outs are 'expected'.
The speed sometimes goes up or down by 1 - 2mb.

Re: Daily drop out keeps changing speed

Speed change is expected on a resync
As to why it is dropping out I can't help but that degree of speed change probably indicates a burst of noise
Have you checked if the phone line is noisy - dial 17070 option 2 quiet line test

Re: Daily drop out keeps changing speed

I have had 4 BT/OR Engineers out this year. 2 when I was with Sky, and 2 with Plus.net. The house and been rewired by OR. I have also had a lift and shift at the exchange and the last OR Engineer re-insulated my line at the cabinet and checked the telegraph pole outside my house and on leaving no problems at all which he could see and a max speed of 12mb.
Since then I have experienced daily dropouts and jumps in speed. Which is better than what I was experiencing but still not acceptable.
My problem started 5 weeks ago and I am no closer to a solution.

Re: Daily drop out keeps changing speed

which router are you using - reason for asking is that running a monitoring program such a dslstats would help a lot

Re: Daily drop out keeps changing speed

The 8970v1 is Lantiq, the 8970v3 is Broadcom. Either way, it doesn't make a difference for stats monitoring purposes, because the TP-Link firmware does not provide good stats access.

SNR spike causes speed to keep dropping until reset

Ok I have been having problems with plusnet for 8 weeks and whenever we seem to make progress something else happens.
My fault now is my line runs fine at about 12Mbps (Once reset) then randomly there is a spike in the SNR and my line speeds drops. Then there will be days of fluctuations in the line speed, until the the line is reset.
This is completely random and no one at Plusnet seems to know what is causing this fault.
I had 4 OR Engineers out in 2015. All of whom found no faults at my home . One fixed the insulation at the cabinet. I ave also had a lift and shift at the exchange, but I am still experiencing problems.
I can't hear any noise on my line when I run the silent test, and as always there is no pattern!
Does anyone experience similar issues? Or can offer any advice?
Thanks in advance.

Re: SNR spike causes speed to keep dropping until reset

Looking at your multiple threads on this issue, I can see that you've not posted any stats on the problem.  I also notice that you report you are using the 2704n router and have asked for info on any software which can log stats from it.  I'm not aware of any.
What's your evidence for a SNRM 'spike' please?  If that's valid, then you are potentially looking for a source of REIN - all of the engineer visits you've had are not going to resolve that issue.
In the first instance please take a look at the speed issues thread (link below) and post all of the information requested there.

Re: SNR spike causes speed to keep dropping until reset

The source is Plusnet complaints dept. And without any logging software it is hard to demonstrate the problem.
As for REIN BT/OR do not believe this to be an issue as basic tests don't seem to indicate any REIN.
