SN Margin Down gone up

Hi, Just raised a ticket about speed issues, or as I thought until I tried BT speed tester, If I had looked on the forum I would have seen the answer is the Plusnet one is broken.
Could anyone advise why my SN Margin down read out on my router should go up to 9.5 and has not bugged for the last few days, It has always been around the 7 to 8.5 mark, more often than enough 8 or below ? I asked this question in my ticket I raised, I have rebooted my router but as yet it is still at 9.5.
It seemed to coincide with the email from Plusnet saying my exchange has been upgraded and that I will be upgraded to up to 20meg in a few weeks time.
regards

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

Occasionally - and for no apparent reason - a move from 20CN too 21CN triggers an increase in default noise margin.
When you ran the BT speedtester did it do an upload speed test and was your downstream IP profile an odd number - this would indicate that you have indeed been moved to 21CN

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

hi, No all the readings are as far as I know normal,Tech dept replied and said I had not been moved, If the speed is ok I'll just wait until the change, See what happens, Just wondered why SN margin changed.

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

If you are still syncing at the maximum speed of 8192 then having the SNRM increase is a good thing.

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

Hi, got message from Tech dept about the speed tester playing up, All settings as far as I know ( and I don't know much on this subject) are as was but the SN margin down has increased to 9.5. I'll see if it goes further down over the next few days. Just rebooted router again to see if it shifts this time.

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

I wouldn't bother as it will have no effect on your connection until you can get onto ADSL2+

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

Most users would be worried if the noise margin was heading the other way. Increases when the sync speed is at the maximum it can reach are good news. Perhaps a dodgy joint has dried out or an electronically noisy appliance has been repaired or turned off.

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

Hi, I've checked Sam Knows and it reads this  21CN WBC status:
Enabled, The S/N margin down on my router has also gone back down to 8, should I raise a ticket to get up to 20mb speeds ? i've checked my speed today and it was 6.7 mb.

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

Hi Jono,
That's only because it was scheduled as part of the bulk upgrades. As it's not been placed yet I'll place it manually in the morning and it'll then take just 7 days.

Re: SN Margin Down gone up

Hi jono,
You're welcome. On the day of changeover you'll notice a little bit of downtime.
