SFTP painfully slow

SFTP performance (to 1&1 servers) since about 11am this morning has been painful. Currently downloading at about 10kB/s; normally it's about 120kB/s. Could be a 1&1 issue, but is anyone else round here finding the same?
Using BB+, 1500kB/s BRAS, and well within usage quotas.

Re: SFTP painfully slow

Perhaps you could elaborate exactly what SFTP means please?
A wild stab in the dark on what it could be is that you're either experiencing traffic management and sticking your application in the bronze queue, you're experiencing heavy exchange contention or the other server is heavily loaded.
But hey.. what do I know - I'm just a forum plod..

Re: SFTP painfully slow

SFTP is SSH FTP (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSH_file_transfer_protocol). I've now been able to do a few other tests and it appears only to be affecting 1&1 servers, so doesn't look like a traffic management issue with PlusNet. That's the good news; the bad news is that means I'll need to get on to 1&1's piggin' useless support dis-service instead of these great guys here...

Re: SFTP painfully slow

I've encounterd 1&1 Webhosting before.
My experience was, to not use it painfully slow - so I couldn't use it anyway  :-\, kept dropping connection and had a messy file system Huh -
as well the product selected only supplied FTP and no SSH access (at all).
I don't think the Traffic Management makes too great a difference in this case.
SFTP isn't too time criticial, similar to HTTP/FTP etc really,
I wouldn't think it would be a huge problem which teir it was assigned to.
So yes, back to the main point, I would say that it's 1&1's side.
Jim,
