Re: Routers

TP-LINK I'd say.
NETGEAR make absolute [Censored] these days and don't even get me started on Plusnet's Technicolor router!

Re: Routers

I personally wouldn't touch a TP-Link, my old work used them and we had so many bork out on us.
The standard one provided by Plus.net is the biggest piece of poop I have ever seen, almost as bad as the days of the old BT Voyagers Wink (yes they're that bad)
Netgear quality have subsided a lot these days but a new up and comer on the market is ASUS, their routers are getting some quite good reviews and offer a lot of features for the price paid.

Re: Routers

For that budget you could look here http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=e+hub+3&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.T... and have plenty of change.
The HH3 may not be the best but it's pretty good for ebay prices.  An 'as new' HH4 may well also be within budget on that site.  HH3 and HH4 are both suposed to be reliable and have decent wireless range (I don't have either but we have a business hub 3 (same hardware as HH3) at work and it has certainly proven to be reliable.

Re: Routers

Really... I'd pick a TP-Link, Buffalo or Asus for that money, all of which have models which are superior to the BT Home hubs. (I don't think the HH3's even have Dual band, do they?)

Re: Routers

I'd forgotten about Asus. They make some fantastic kit. I'd certainly recommend them too.
And the HH3 does not have dual band.

Re: Routers

I use TP-Link (see below Roll_eyes ), though the TD8816 had to be replaced after a few weeks nearly a year ago. If you are looking towards a "go fibre" easy transition, then a TD8816 with TL-WR1043ND or TL-WDR3500 combination would give you 11n300 wireless/Gigabit or dual-band wireless/100Mb for a little over £50 - a WDR3600 with gigabit ports would be about £10 more.

Re: Routers

I compared a TC-Link  to a Draytek Vigour 2710n and it synced 2 meg less. Nice lay out and looks good but the TC-Link is a no go.

Do you mean TP-Link?  If so, what model?

Whilst 2Mb/s less would be a non-starter for me (almost literally Cheesy ), the 100kb/s is acceptable with an ability to hold usable connections at well below 1dB SNRM Shocked
Are you seriously suggesting a Draytek Vigor 2710n for someone with a £50 budget?

I was going to say, aren't the Vigor 2710n series £100.00 plus in pricing?

Re: Routers

D-link are one of the market leaders and yes, are very good. Linksys, I personally am not a fan on Linksys but I cannot fault them as they are owned/run by Cisco who are THE leaders in networking and I adore Cisco products.

Re: Routers

I find the hub 5 very good.
Are you in a FTTC area or thinking of getting FTTC? I would recommend you get the hub 5 then you will not need the OR modem for fibre when you get it.
But if not FTTC area then just get the hub 4 of the well known auction site or BT Shop.
Good quality

I would say that depends whether you want to buy new or not.  Huh
Buying from eBay, my DrayTek Vigor 2710 cost me £14.49.  Shocked
It arrived "as new", with box, all the accessories, still with the protective cellophane on the unit,  and everything in perfect condition.  Smiley
I would highly recommend the Vigor 2710.  Cool
If you really wanted to get the most from a £50 budget, recently on eBay there have been at least two or three Draytek Vigor 2850n ADSL+VDSL routers going for £52 to £56.
