For the last couple of weeks I have suffered more outages than the entire two years (ish) I have been with Plusnet.
Usually manifesting as a routing issue of some sort and having flaming google links in most of the plusnet pages means even the forum pages refuse to load.
Something has to change and as the router seems to be sluggish when I login to it for a bit of disconnect/reconnect action I will start with that.
Any recommendations for a unit to replace this wobbly old Thompson unit ?
Not bothered about Wireless, everything is hard wired, wireless is only turned on when somebody comes round with a iPad.
3G/4G backup would be nice
Is the business grade connection more stable ?
I often work from home so don't object to paying more if the service is better.
And I'll say it again, dump the google stuff from some of these pages, why the hell does google-analtics need to run a java script when I post a message here ?
It makes access to these support pages almost unusable at times.
Thanks

Hi there,
Sorry to hear about the issue, however I'd not want to assume it's the router as you might be overlooking a fault with the service, note the disconnections that this graph indicates:
<img src="http://ccgi.psmith12.plus.com/visradius/generated/image13632716187768.png"/>
I can't honestly say changing to a business product would be helpful in this situation either.
My advice would be firstly to try another router if you are able to get your hands on one to borrow temporarily perhaps.
If that then shows no improvement then I'd encourage you to raise a fault: http://faults.plus.net

Thanks for the reply Adam, the graph is interesting to look at and I may have more than one problem to solve.
The Thomson router is clunky and short on features so I will be changing it for, probably a draytek.
In the meantime I will be moving the router next to the main phone socket, apart from a hole in the wall thats an easy one to do and it will tidy up the wires.
The router logs also show disconnects
Speed looks good though, this is the highest figure I've seen reported although I havent looked for a while.

Well, being a rainy weekend I decided to move the router closer to the main socket.
This is done and a 25m internal extension is no longer part of my phone system, just a short 1m extension through the wall that was already there.
I thought halving the phone extensions and having a single microfilter would improve things

DSL Type: G.992.3 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 888 / 6,264
So it now goes slower, great way to spend an afternoon....NOT!
Should have gone to the pub instead.
On a plus note, I did notice whilst at floor level threading some cat-6 through the wall there is a chopped off cable poking out of the BT master socket.
Maybe there was an extension socket somewhere in the house once but dangling wires probably wont be helping things.
Still haven't managed to speak to anyone about my MAC number request.
You dont make it easy to leave do you, going to try again on Monday.
