Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

I am also getting this problem on a basis of on average around every ten days. Pretty fed up with it really, I work away from home all week, so the last thing I want is my wife complaining that she is unable to access the internet again, and therefore having to wait untill im home on the weekend to sort it out.

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

Sorry to hear that, if it's that infrequent it's not an easy one to fix 😕 Does it usually take a while to sort out, or is it usually just a matter of rebooting the router?

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

It differs Matt. For example, last night I had my wife to switch off the router, she left it off for a half hour first time, and for a hour the second time but still no joy. In the end she just gave up and left it and it still was not back up by the time she went to bed. I have not spoken about it today yet, I guess I will have to wait untill she is home from work to check if its back up.

Are you getting the message 'Concentrator unreachable'?

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

Openreach engineer has arrived and left. He tested the line both up and down for 15 mins. No errors whatsoever. Also spoke to the fibre centre who checked and found nothing. He left me a replacement modem if I needed to change the original one. He had never heard of a 'concentrator unreachable' error before.
FYI: Yesterday, 10//6/13 at about 2pm I replaced the plusnet TG582n router with my own new TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 dual band router to determine if the two plusnet routers I have used are the cause of the problem. I had an outage this morning 11/6/13 at about 00:30 but I believe that was because of PlusNet maintenance. The new router has been working OK but it's too early to say whether that has fixed the issue. If I get the problem again I will then swap to the modem the engineer left.

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

Has anyone when getting these issues tried clicking Disconnect in the Router Interface before turning off the Router (not the Modem) for 10 minutes - Then on Power up, log in to the Router and Click Connect?
@GrahamClark
If at some point you go to swap the Modem, I'd do it when you can leave it off for an hour ( in the daytime as well), so the DLM doesn't see it as a dropped sync, because you have no engineer around to organise a reset if DLM makes a mess of things. Plusnet may have some difficulty persuading OR to do a reset as well, as it means someone going to the Cab IIRC.

Yes I noticed that as well on reading through the thread, and I think it could have some significance to what is going on.
I'd make sure that you put that section of log entries onto your Fault ticket and highlight those time differences. Whether this has any bearing on -
a) the cause of the drop in the first place or b) the session time-out - is anyone's guess.

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

@Anotherone. I have never powered of the modem because I don't trust DLM yet. Maybe unjustified though. I will note your advice on replacing the modem during the day etc.
Now I have my own TP-LINK router connected it'll be interesting to see what happens over the next days. One thing of note is that this router is issuing PPP info messages every two mins. I have no idea why and have asked TP-LINK why. These messages are
Jun 11 03:32:23 PPP      INFO  send_phase 2098 pppd_phase = 0xd
Jun 11 03:32:23 PPP      INFO  In pppd the httpd-id is 669, set link phase is 0xd
Jun 11 03:34:23 PPP      INFO  send_phase 2098 pppd_phase = 0xd
Jun 11 03:34:23 PPP      INFO  In pppd the httpd-id is 669, set link phase is 0xd
Jun 11 03:36:24 PPP      INFO  send_phase 2098 pppd_phase = 0xd
Jun 11 03:36:24 PPP      INFO  In pppd the httpd-id is 669, set link phase is 0xd
Look like some form of PPP keep alive to me but they could be anything. Anyone know?

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

I'd certainly find it irritating having a log full of that ....... However in the current situation it may be useful if the log is large enough to store all that.
jimbof mentioned a 2 minute keep alive, I wonder if he got that from his logs.

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

Nope, tried it intially and left the router powered off for a half hour but no joy. Tried it again for the second time, this time with the router off for around a hour, and still no joy. Wife then decided she could not be bothered anymore and left it. By the time she went to bed it was still off. Have no idea if its back up today> Can you check and post up the graph to show if/ and when connection is lost and re-established? Many thanks.

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"

It's still not connected.

As you mentioned it's stable for the last 8 days that the connection graph goes back but is happening every 10 days or so.
I'd suggest raising a fault at http://faults.plus.net and add the information regarding Concentrator unreachable, as you shouldn't be seeing downtime for a long period.

Re: Router getting "Concentrator unreachable"
