Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

My router will keep resetting itself about 10-15 times a night. Could this have something to do with my line as I believe my router is fine, it is a netgear DGN1000 on the latest firmware. On my phone it will also drop its wifi connection often but not the wired connections to my pc and xbox one. My phone will say authentication error occurred and I will then have to reset my router to reconnect to the wifi.

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

Hi there,
Our logs definitely reflect the disconnections you've noticed:

I'd advise trying another router if you can just to get that ruled out and then raising a fault if there's still an issue: http://faults.plus.net

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

Im a work currently and im an I.T technician so i shall borrow a router for the night and update you on the progress. I was just wondering if a faulty line could force the router to be resetting each time.

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

Its interesting to see that the graph is mostly showing its disconnections when im in and using it.
Is this also why my speed has dropped because of the disconnections?

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

Hi, yes DLM (dynamic line management) looks to have lowered the speed profile in response to the disconnections.
If you're noticing the router reset when the connection drops that would usually indicate a router problem so definitely a good idea to rule that out first.

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

I didnt manage to get a router but I did manage to sort the problem by turning off the wireless directly from the router. You should see on the graph that there are less disconnections. Any advice on what to do to get both wireless and cable access without disconnections.

With that particular router, I'm really not sure as they should work simultaneously to be honest.
If they won't work both together at the same time, it might be worth trying an alternative router.

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

I've had issues in the past when I've been doing heavy copying between machines and the router has thrown a wobbly (an older Technicolour one - not a PN provided one) and also when lots of incoming connections when torrenting.
Not sure if either are related to your problem but sometimes the router/modem just seems to run out of steam.

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

Yeah it seems to be that way. After disabling the wireless on my router I managed to get a constant wired conenction going but without a wireless soloution. I then managed to get a wireless access point so I now have a working wired and wireless solution, it seemed that the wireless was mucking up on the router causing it to kick off so I now have a seperate access point for wireless.
This problem has been solved. Can I see my graph again? there should be no disconnections as of last night (12/02/2014)
Roll on fiber in 2 weeks time.

Re: Router constantly resetting - Could it be my line?

I also had some "issues" when I misconfigured a router as a repeater and accidentally enabled multicast traffic.
I've never seen a router die so fast  Grin
