Something unusual happened this morning which as never happened before the red light on my router which indicates my internet was on and off for a while,I also noted that the other lights were flashing I was not on my laptop at the time so I suppose I had lost my connection.I am curious why this happened because everything is fine now.

Hi there,
which light was red (usually internet or broadband) the former usually means authentication has failed and both lights would mean no connection to the exchange (no synch)
It's dropped a few times overnight from what I can see but not to a great extent:

Let me know if you have any further concerns.

I had a problem when I switched on my laptop a little while ago it tells me I have limited access and was unable to connect so I disonnected and reconnected and we are back to normal, I have done nothing at this end to make things go wrong could there be a problem at the exchange or a router problem being a elderly gent I do not understand all this technical jargon.

No problem and glad to hear that's OK again.
If have any further problems just take a look at the router to see which light/lights is flashing if you can as that can help us understand the nature of the issue more quickly.
