Ridiculous Charge

My parents have asked me to look at their account, as they are confused.  I am also confused.  There is a charge of 115.36  on their account from 2006, for a BT ADSL USB MODEM.  115 quid!!!!!!!!!!  WTF....  What was this for, as just above is a deferred charge, now written off, for a BT Voyager USB modem, which they still have, however they now use a router.

Re: Ridiculous Charge

You might find that is what your parents would have paid for the router if they had left Plusnet before their original contract expired. Because they have stayed with PN since the inception of the contract, the deferred costs have been absorbed and no longer apply to the account.
So in other words, nothing to worry about.

Re: Ridiculous Charge

Nor did I.  I also would have though that to avoid confusion, the charge would have been labelled as written off by now.....

Re: Ridiculous Charge

Only other thing I can think of, apart from the 18 carat gold plating is that there was a activation charge in there too..on reflection, It definitely needs looking at by the sounds of it.

Re: Ridiculous Charge

I just dug out the invoice for my first broadband connection. It included:
Connection charge £60
USB Modem £90
Filter (just 1) £15
Delivery £20
So that's £185 so far.
Plus VAT (£32.38)
£217.38  Crazy
And remember this was ONLY in 2003! (January), prior to that I was on dial-up
The actual monthly service charge was quite scary compared to current prices. For a 512K connection.

Re: Ridiculous Charge

I recall paying Pipex at least £90 + VAT for "frog" back in March 2002
Initial £50 + VAT was waived provided you stayed 12 months.
512k was £23.44 per month from that April.
