Red Internet Light - Router

Hi all,
I have been having problems with my router. It can't go a day without disconnecting and producing the red internet light and seems to take an age to come back on.
Does anyone know what could be the problem, it has been doing it for a few months now and it was only when my son mentioned it that I thought I would post it on here. He has done a hard reset for me on two occasions but it keeps producing this error.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There's not to many disconnections on there. When you have the red internet light are you still able to use the internet?
Also, are you using a wired or wireless connection?

Thanks for the reply.
I have been using a wireless connection on my laptop and also on my son's laptop and a few iPad's/iPhone's but my son has been using his Xbox 360 on a wired connection and this is affected also.

I'm going to suggest running through our faults troubleshooter at http://faults.plus.net where we'll take a closer look at your line. If it turns out to be a router issue we'll arrange to get another one sent to you.
