The engineer came round this morning and did some testing. He eventually decided there were some 'milky'(did he say?) joints which he replaced. Things look better now, almost back to normal.
Looking good, @smallblueplanet . From what I've seen earlier in this topic, it looks like the dodgy joints were the issue, but keep your eyes on the performance and shout up if it starts misbehaving.

I've seen better bandwidth on an offshore platform.
And there are plenty like me in rural locations.
