Recent Poor Speed Please Help!

Hi,
I have been getting very slow speeds over the last 5 ish days, I just ran the BT speed tester and got the following results:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 411 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :6784 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps
I have been with Plusnet for just over a month and have been getting constant speeds in excess of 5000Kbps.
How come it says the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500Kbps? What does this mean?
Help would be much appreciated.

Re: Recent Poor Speed Please Help!

If that's been going on for 5 days raise a ticket.
BT's kit thinks you've had a serious problem (and indeed you probably did but may not have noticed) and has artificially limited your line.
This is supposed to reset within 3 days or so if it's a "one off".
PN can see more details and whether or not it will reset or is "stuck". Or maybe there is a recurring problem not evident when you took those stats.

Re: Recent Poor Speed Please Help!

Hi there,
Looking at your connection logs, you appear to have a dropping connection issue.
I'd suggest locating your mastersocket, unscrewing the faceplate and inserting your router in to the test socket on the bottom half via a filter.
That will help us find out if it is your internal wiring that is causing your connection to drop.

Re: Recent Poor Speed Please Help!

I've been having a similar problem for at least 10 days now, occurring before and after a broadband fault in my area on 14/09/09 (full loss of service for 8-12 hours I recall). Been getting 4-5 times this speed without any issue from plusnet for years.
Stats below, getting same results from master and secondary sockets with 2 different routers/wiring setups, can't use BT Speedtester currently:
Download speed (mybroadbandspeed.co.uk): 1155kbps down, 374 kbps up
Connection rate: 5088 down/448 up
Noise margin: 12.4 down/22.0 up
Output power: 12.0 down/19.8 up
Attenuation: 27.0 down/ 15.0 up
Can't give my IP profile at the moment as BT Speedtester is down.
Please help!

Re: Recent Poor Speed Please Help!

Hi Stephen,
Your IP Profile is 4000Kbps.
Can you try rebooting and then running another speedtest to see if you notice any improvement?

Re: Recent Poor Speed Please Help!

Thanks - Know it's a pain but can you keep trying the BT Speedtester every hour or so?
I need some evidence that the speeds are actually poor on a BT system.
