Received an email from plusnet re: my mailbox

Hello,
I received an email this evening from Plusnet informing me that my mailbox has a large amount of mail stored in it,
and requesting I do something about it.
Of course, I'd like to, but when ever I login to the webmail, I get the "ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server." message.
On the rare occasion I can login, simply going to the inbox or spam folder also gives me a connection dropped error.
I have all my mail redirected to my current plusnet mail account, which I've had with Force9 for probably about 15 years now.
Is it usual that the spam folder isn't automatically purged every so often? It would seem like it should be.
Since I can't login through the webmail, I'm unsure as to how I'm able to delete the contents of my spam folder.

Could you possibly PM me with the username of the mailbox that you need to have the spam deleted from and I'll see what I can do for you.
