I have just done a BT Speedtest and came up with the following results;
0 Kbps 7150 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 495 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4512 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps
This test was not conclusive and further testing is required.This might be useful for your ISP to investigate the fault. If you wish to carry out further tests,please click on 'Continue' button.If not, please close the window using 'Exit' button and contact your ISP for further assistance with these results.
Exchange details are;

I know we live in a rural area but at this speed it is taking forever to download. The other issue I am getting is that sometimes it drops out altogether. Router which is a Belkin seems to be operating fine as signal strength is high. I am not to sure how to approach this problem to do elimination.
Unfortunately I don't have another router that I can use. I do know that people just down the road from me are also experiencing problems with slow downloads however they have been putting it down to numerous people logging on in the evening until I mentioned that i had the problem during the daytime. They are with another ISP.
Any advcie please? Thanks.

Connection is wireless. There does not seem to be a problem with the wireless connection as when ti has dropped out, a check shows that signal strength is okay at full strength but speed is low. We have also noticed that the phone is very quiet and people have to talk loudly for us to hear, but not sure if this is factor..

Hi there,
Firstly can you do a quiet line test on 17070 (just to rule out any phone issues).
Secondly, are you connected to the master socket? If not can you be? (BT Wholesale are only responsible for the connection up to the master socket, after that it's your domain).
I've run some tests and they show that if the first two issues are not the cause we can raise a fault, as your speed is much lower than it should be.

Quiet test seems okay. There was a splitter in the master socker which fed the Sky box and the other socket had a blocker. The blocker fed the Belkin router and the landline phone. I have plugged the blocker into the master sockert and disconnected the Sky telephone line.
