I am experiencing similar issues.
I live quite a distance from the nearest exchange, and consequently have got used to a line speed of ~ 1.6 Mbs.
However, since December 2009 I've been getting between 150 kbs and 400 kbs line speed. Terrible.
If this cannot be sorted I'll be moving to another ISP soon.

br190457: Can you post the results of a BT speed test and the stats reported by your router (sync speed, attenuation and noise margin) please.

Have you ever thought about buying a BT-i plate aka BT accelerator ?
it my help your download speeds and/or make your line more stable price £9.98
