Re: DNS weirdness

Not me (!!   Sometimes it is accessible, more often than not it is unaccessible.
I also queried this with my ISP providr - here is their view....
The following comment was added to the Question
Dear Mr Pritchard,
Thanks for getting back in touch.
I can confirm from testing using all our dns servers none resolve the domain www.dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk however using an alternative dns server this does resolve to the IP 74.52.180.187.
As such it would appear the DNS servers simply do not have the correct information, normally this means the host hasn't distributed this correct, requesting a refresh of this should issue our DNS servers with the correct information.
However in the meantime I am going to escalate this for the attention of our networks team to review and see if there is anything they can force through however please note this may take several days.
In the meantime I would recommend you query this with the host.
[internal]
Unable to ping or view www.dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk using our dns, external dns server are successful and also the internal dns servers also work fine.
Would recommend adding this to our dns servers if possible.
Kind regards,

Re: DNS weirdness

re your first comment on the last post, you seem to have a very itchy finger, this is the third time you have made a mistake in the spelling of your own  web site as well as the other maybe excusable errors

Re: DNS weirdness

Well I think the fact I am typing it into browser and tracerts correctly is a given.
When I am trying to resolve this in a forum/ISP support/Host etc and typing quickly I think everyone knows the www address is as originally shown.

Re: DNS weirdness

Nope!    You are the one seeking help, so correct reporting is of the essence.  We would not neccessarliy know whether you had deliberately changed the URL as part of your own diagnostics, so we have to follow up on your last report.
Also given that one of the addresses you originally quoted was incorrect, your comment is a bit  optimistic Undecided

Re: DNS weirdness

In the meantime is it generally accepted that a number of users are still having problems, which Plusnet and or others have not yet resolved ?.
There are a number of sites I still cannot access including the Plusnet Portal.

Re: DNS weirdness

Hi Nocturne,
I appreciate that there were issues reported yesterday, however I've been monitoring these forums today and I haven't seen any generic issues being reported apart from a couple of isolated examples.

Re: DNS weirdness

Thanks Jameseh
I posted some info yesterday, which is now on the previous page, including a tracert to Plusnet.
I have also installed the OpenDNS details into my router as the image I posted.
I can bring up www.plus.net but the 'link' to the Log In page eg 'https://portal.plus.net/index_portal.html?home=login'  times out and has done since yesterday, although prior to that I haven't tried to log in for many weeks.
Can you offer any advice on how I might proceed.

Re: DNS weirdness

Hiya,
Do you see similar problems on other https:// sites?
I'm just wondering if it's only secure ones which are being problematic, in which case its more likely to be your browsers security settings than our DNS servers (especially as you're not using them anymore!).

There are a few situations where I can access the site but other 'pages' on those sites time out.
At least some of them I'm sure are not 'secure' pages although this example appears to be 'https://www.opendns.com/start/' on OpenDNS site.
I have updated from Firefox xxx to Firefox 3.5 so I will check and see if that could be the problem.
Thank you.
Edit: It does appear to be https pages that are causing the problem.
Further edit: Excuse my blushes but I seem to have created a rule in the Firewall to block certain sites and succeeded in blocking all https ie port 443.
I saw the posts relating to DNS issues and put two and two together and came up with 5  Embarrassed

Re: DNS weirdness

Thanks - Would definitely suggest reverting your browsers content and security settings to its defaults to see if this helps at all.

So...mixed results about accessing the site.....I presume everyone is going through Plus.net to try and access it?
If so then surely doesn't that indicate the problem lies squarely with them??, and if so they should own up and confirm what they are doing to resolve the issue.

Successive lookups to dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk using our DNS caches are failing occasionally (but not always):
bpullen@pvs-csctools:~$ host dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk 212.159.13.49
Using domain server:
Name: 212.159.13.49
Address: 212.159.13.49#53
Aliases:
Host dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk not found: 2(SERVFAIL)

Each time I tried using OpenDNS is worked:
bpullen@pvs-csctools:~$ host dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk 208.67.222.222
Using domain server:
Name: 208.67.222.222
Address: 208.67.222.222#53
Aliases:
dimplesdaisysanddandelions.co.uk has address 74.52.180.187

What is strange is that you still seem to have 1 and 1 name server records associated with the domain. A whois shows this:

AIUI your domain should no longer be affiliated with 1and1 so the first thing I'd do if you haven't already is contact your current host to query this. Let us know what they say and we'll look into things further if needs be.
