Random disconnections

Been with plus.net about seven months, first four or five months were trouble free, but over the last couple of months I've been getting random disconnects where the whole DSL line goes down. It stays off for between five and fifteen minutes, then comes back up, but now with a slightly slower download speed. Over the last couple of months I've dropped from around 13.5mbps to just under 10 today. I've moved the router so it's away from all sources of electronic noise, it has plenty of space round it and is connected directly to the wall plate. here's the connection info at the moment

Re: Random disconnections

It looks like the speeds have reduced because of the disconnections.
Have you noticed any problems using the phone since this started?

Also do you have a test socket? if so have you tried connecting there?

Re: Random disconnections

It's connected directly to the internal socket (front plate has been removed). No extensions, no phone noise problems.

Re: Random disconnections

OK, in that case I'd go straight ahead and raise a fault with us: http://faults.plus.net

Re: Random disconnections

Went through the fault questionnaire and got to a point where I need to swap out the modem/router in order to isolate that from the fault, as if an engineer comes out and it turns out to be a dodgy router, I'll be billed (didn't say how much I might be billed), so I stopped there. Have just fitted a brand new filter, which of course dropped the line, and my line speed dropped again.

I'll see if it now stays up for longer than 24 hours, before trying to source a router to use.

Re: Random disconnections

Hi there,
I can see that your line has been in sync for over 15 hours, let's see how it is at the end of the day and then go from there.

Re: Random disconnections

Ok seems to be lots more stable (whether that's the lowered speed or the new filter, who knows), are the error within normal parameters?

Re: Random disconnections

I'd say that looks fine, FYI the connection has been up for well over 3 days now.

Re: Random disconnections

That looks fine???!!!! Angry
Sync speed of 9675 with an attenuation of 29.5? It should be syncing around 15000!
Has it been banded?

Re: Random disconnections

No banding, but interleaving has been turned off recently and for some reason since then the upload has increased but download decreased 😕
@craigknighton, is the router plugged into the master socket and if not does that make any difference at all?

Re: Random disconnections

Ok today had a major burst of disconnects (seemed about 10 in 15 minutes) and my speed has now dropped to  9410 down 1112 up.
I am in the middle of trying a  Belkin F5D8632-4 and using its developer zone I found this info
adslctl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: ShowtimeRetrain Reason: 8000
Channel: FAST, Upstream rate = 1112 Kbps, Downstream rate = 9410 Kbps
Link Power State: L0
Mode: ADSL2+
Channel: Fast
Trellis: U:ON /D:ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime
Down Up
SNR (dB): 9.0 5.8
Attn(dB): 30.0 13.8
Pwr(dBm): 0.0 12.9
Max(Kbps): 12344 1116
Rate (Kbps): 9410 1112
This is beginning to annoy me in all honesty, and is stopping me from 'upgrading' my account to 'Unlimited', as I don't want to be tied in to twelve months is the speed is going to keep dropping every time the router gets switched off (or we have a 10 second power cut which are common in mid-Lincolnshire).

Re: Random disconnections

Ok the Belkin router was awful - the wireless signal actually worse than the Thomson one from Plus.net!  Shocked
Re-connected old router and here's the new settings.
