[REQUEST] Change IP Address

Hey guys,
My IP address was recently released by a team of hackers, they've constantly been taking over my Hotmail account because of this.
I want to make a new one but I know that It will just get hacked again.
I am also recieving many disconnections and DDoS attempts which i've blocked with the program bullguard.
Please help?

Re: [REQUEST] Change IP Address

Do you actually need a fixed IP address

Re: [REQUEST] Change IP Address

Unless you are doing something which specifically needs a fixed address then you could request a change to a dynamic IP once the Member Centre is working again.
Out of interest - since it is out of my expertise - why would knowing your IP address allow hackers to get into your Hotmail account
A check on your posting history shows that it was always from the same IP address so yes it is fixed

Re: [REQUEST] Change IP Address

Thanks jim,
And yeah there is a user form for Hotmail users which is often taken advtange of.
All the hacker needs is my IP to be able to revert the account.
Thanks for your help, when do you think the member center will be back online?

Re: [REQUEST] Change IP Address

Looks like member centre is back up again.
Didn't realise there was such a form, may explain the recent increase in hotmail accounts being compromised and used to send out spam.
Has anyone seen my signature, it's gone missing.

Does this stop if you set your Plusnet Broadband Firewall - https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=firewall - to "High"  ?
That should stop any attacks getting to your router  Undecided
If Hotmail really is that vulnerable, then you should look elsewhere for an email account, as changing your IP address is unlikely to be a long term solution.

Re: [REQUEST] Change IP Address

You would need to raise a ticket or phone in as there isn't a specific link for doing it.
As far as I know you can't request a change only to move from fixed to dynamic.
Do you have an icon as shown here https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=myconnection
However if you change how do Hotmail see the change and work with it.

Note your IP address.  Restart your router.  If your IP address remains the same then it's fixed.

See my reply 3
Note that it isn't necessary to restart the router just to disconnect and reconnect from Plusnet also a quick disconnect/reconnect may not give a new IP address

Re: [REQUEST] Change IP Address

If I recollect correctly you can tell whether you have static or dynamic IP on the connection settings of your PlusNet member page when you login.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

In theory that is correct but often it is either wrong or not shown

Re: [REQUEST] Change IP Address

To backup what 'Oldjim' stated, I have just checked in my Plusnet "Member Centre" as I recently had cause to raise a ticket to confirm my IP address status as it was being reported incorrectly, and having just checked it is still being shown as 'Your IP is currently Dynamic' when in actual fact I have always had a block of 'static' IP addresses.
