REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

Well its been almost 6 months with untroubled service... then wham, multiple disconnects from Monday 2 Mar.
3 Mar from 11:42 onwards it was up and down consistently, so unusable until 17:05
I've contacted Plusnet and ticket #100344275 was created for me (72 hours for testing).
The wiring was checked and an ADSL Mk2 faceplate fitted 18 Sep 2014, no other changes have been made.

Re: REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

Our faults team have been given the information, but they have been given literally, no information. I'm addressing that, but I'd be really grateful if you'd update ticket 100344275 (portal.plus.net) with details of the symptoms.

Re: REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

Hi MsDizzie,
That looks grim, it rather looks like something local being switched on, warming up (downward shift) and spewing out REIN, then suddenly switching off (sharp upward shift), ceasing to emit REIN.
As much for Tony as anything else, what happened back here - http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,131451.msg1154963.html#msg1154963 - was a SNRM reset performed at that time?  Were those issues fully resolved?

Re: REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

Townman: yes an SRNM reset was done, and I've been happily running at around 16Mb at 3db
I was told that some line tests would be done over the next 72 hrs (from Tues) so I guess that hasn't been happening, and how could I give more information at the time when I didn't have any access?!?!?
Anyway, I've updated the ticket and pointed the team to the forum.

Re: REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

Well its still not reliable, and the order to fix the SNR to 6db obviously didn't take.

Re: REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

Yup it certainly doesn't look pretty today

Interestingly the target SNR has gone back down to 3db again.
The tickets back with our Faults team and they'll get that looked into as soon as possible.

Re: REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

The RS plots are horrid.  What is the sample interval?  Can you set this to 10 seconds and 720 plot points.  This will make graphs cover 2 hours and might give clearer REIN profiling.
Do you have a portable MW radio?  If so try wandering around with it tuned to 612kHz and see if you can detect localised noise, particularly when you are experiencing the disconnections.

Townman, all my plots are set to 10 seconds and 720 plot points  Wink
The last graph I supplied in Reply #4 doesn't really show a marked deterioration of signal prior to the subsequent re-connects.
Also, I don't have a portable radio, so the "REIN walkabout" is off.

Will need to see what the faults team propose.  In the meantime please keep RS running, it might just still spill the beans.
Do you have a car with a MW radio?  If yes it might be worth giving that a listen when / if you get another episode as shown in reply #4 graph.

It is likely that the profiles have yet to catch up.
When doing the BTw speed test, always do the further diagnostics - this will tell you the BT profile.
Then go look at the current speed in the PN portal (see the speed issues thread for details).
Unless these are aligned to your synch speed (88.2% thereof) you will not see the best data speed.

Re: REIN back with a vengeance? #100344275

The profile on our end has increased however the connection hasn't dropped since.
If you log into your router and disconnect then reconnect you should see the increase.

Thank you Townman and Matthew.

And BT Performance Test: Download 16.05 (Profile 16.91) Upload 0.66 (Profile 0.83) so almost ties up  Wink
I'll pull together a selection of RS graphs later.
