Quickie on speeds, on BBYW2

Just tried to download Windows 7 beta ( stupidly at this time I know Embarrassed :-[), as I am used to PAYG.  Am now on BBYW2, and I was getting approx 26Kbps from the microsoft site. At this time downloads are rate limited to 256kbps, so I am presuming this is a normal speed for Microsoft at this time of night (Am I right in presuming MS is a download server or site?).  I am not complaining, just wanted clarification, as I am always confusing bytes per second with bits per second Crazy

I'm on Prem 1 and only getting 65k so looks like it's the MS site..

Re: Quickie on speeds, on BBYW2

I'm pretty sure that the speeds for the Windows 7 download will be classified as "download servers".
Speeds should pick up after midnight.

Re: Quickie on speeds, on BBYW2

Come on James you can't take all the blame credit.
You were only limiting to 1Mbps whereas I was getting between 80 and 650 kbps - so I think Microsoft must take some of the credit too  Grin

Re: Quickie on speeds, on BBYW2

Downloaded the beta this morning, when speeds not restricted.  Started OK, at line speed (512KB/sec), and I left it alone to do its thing.  Checked about 3/4hr later, and saw the download speeds varying wildly, from 190KB/sec to line speed, and back inbetween.  Is this a normal thing when downloading such large files, or is it a server side issue do you think.. Not bothered, just wondered why it happens. AT one point it went down to 180KB/sec, and then as I watched, rose almost immediately to over 350KB/sec  Just interested.....

Re: Quickie on speeds, on BBYW2

started downloading at just b4 12 today and started off rubish 10KB/s-150KB/s. max line rate of 350KB/s and on option 3 so NR untill 4pm.
paused it and hopped gateway started again and straight up to line speed but still drops in to the 250KB/s mark for few seconds and then back up very often.
10 mins to go Smiley

Re: Quickie on speeds, on BBYW2

dual boots o.k.
only problem i found was that from windows 7 you could not see/browse the vista partion but you can see the windows 7 partion from vista.
To fix just go to disk mangament on windows 7 and add a drive letter to the vista partion
seems most if not all people dual booting have the same problem
