Hooray, the Plusnet IP Profile has finally caught-up with the BT one and my connection has been stable for over a day.  Below are the basic stats. from my router (Netgear DG834PN)

Oops, looks like my hooray was prematur.  My actual download speed seems to have dropped from what it was before the ADSL2+ upgrade.

Okay, whatever was causing the problem first thing this morning seems to have dissipated.  I'll continue to keep an eye on things whilst the line retrains.

Now about 60 hours on ADSL2+ and my upload sync rate has increased to 1156kbps (and the associated noise margin decreased to 6dB).
Meanwhile my downstream speed is varying in the 9000 to 9500kbps range.  My signal to noise ratio is much less stable than it used to be and has wandered down from  6.1 at 20:00 to 4.8 at 22:30.
