Re: Question Thread

You probably won't see an immediate change in speed test results until your Profile is tweaked and at the moment that has to be done manually.
You need to look at the sync speed reported by your router. BT speedtest will determine how your profile should be set: http://speedtester.bt.com/ Compare that with your speed reported on the portal
Can you post the sync speeds reported by your router, the full results from the speedtest, and the current speed reported by https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate

Re: Question Thread

ok mate i cant go to the bt site now, i have to wait 3 hours...
my modem says  Reserved Bandwidth (kbit/s) up/down = 448 / 7616 which is what the bt test reported.
i know my profile is set to 6500k but i cant find this anywhere on my modem
is this what you mean by sync speed? sorry this is new info for me...
and for the admin staff if you could work your magic on my line i'd appreciate it, thanks

Re: Question Thread

The Sync speeds are what your router calls Reserved Bandwidth up/down 448/7616kbps. Routers don't report IP Profiles, that is a data-transfer management figure which is set from the sync speed (within 75 minutes when sync speed decreases but with a delay of up to 5 days if it increases). The BT Performance Test gives the current IP Profile and this should be echoed as the High-speed Broadband setting in the Member Centre (the value of 6500kbps you mentioned is correct for 7616kbps sync).
The sync speeds quoted suggests you are not on 21CN. In your posts you referred to "modem" as the source of the stats - did you really mean modem or is it an always-on router? What make/model is it? Just wondering if it supports ADSL2+.

Re: Question Thread

There's loads of different versions of the 510 and it's not easy to work out if they all support ADSL2+. Is it fairly new? Do you have the exact model/version?

Re: Question Thread

Information about the ST510 routers (v3, v4 and v5/6) can be found here - http://www.thomsonbroadbandpartner.com/dsl-modems-gateways/products/previous-products.php.
It doesn't look as though the v3 or v4 models support ADSL2+, but the CLI manual for the v5/6 mentions ADSL2+.

Re: Question Thread

Looking at the user guide for the v3 says data rates up to 8MB - so no ADSL 2+. I haven't checked any others.

Re: Question Thread

Some Netgear routers need a firmware update to support ADSL2+

Re: Question Thread

And some firmware upgrades will do for Netgear routers - well mine was never the same afterwards.  Lips_are_sealed

Re: Question Thread

Check the really detailed stats - does it look as if you are running as a
G.DMT wrapped up in ADSL2+ (well that's how it seemed to me anyway).
I had this problem - Download was also exactly 8128Kbps

Re: Question Thread

I'm not sure if those Netgear versions are the latest (I'm on a DG834v1 firmware version 3.01.38, ADSL firmware version 7.03.01.66)
To check go to http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/list/p3/161and select your model and version.
