Re: Question #77930724 No response

Re: Question #77930724 No response

Received the following email on Saturday:
"Dear Mr Sullivan,
I tried to call you today but there was no answer on the mobile.
I have tested the line and currently the speeds seem very good at around 16- 17mbps.
I can see your speed has varied between 13.5Mbps and 17.5Mbps over the last few months.
It is a rate adaptive line, which means it will vary the speed according to line conditions. As long as the synchronisation speed remains above 15.5mbps, then it is not really seen as being a problem. The line rate is usually around 85% of the synchronisation rate.
Therefore, all seems well at the moment.
Please monitor now and just get back to us if any more problems arise.
This ticket will close automatically after 14 days, therefore you don't need to reply if there are no more problems."

So, thinking everything was ok I closed the ticket.
Shortly afterwards, I received a text from my wife to say internet was down.  I checked on Thinkbroadband checker I have set up and she was correct.
Since then the SNR has reverted to 6, according to my router.
Can someone check this for me and see why the SNR reset to 3 hasn't worked?
Getting rather fed up of all this hassle  Angry

Re: Question #77930724 No response

The default noise margin is 6db for a very good reason - it's a sensible compromise between speed and reliability.
If you run routerstats to monitor the noise margin we'd have a better idea of what is going on. If the noise margin varies by approaching 3db attempting to run with a 3db target would be foolish.

Re: Question #77930724 No response

Routerstats doesn't support my router, or I would most certainly have used it.
When I was with BE, my speedtests were always over 16Mbps, and I had 2 disconnects in 4 years of being with them.  I only left because they were being taken over by Sky  Angry
Wish I hadn't bothered if this is all I can expect  Undecided

Re: Question #77930724 No response

Can someone from the DCT let me know why the SNR reset either hasn't happened or hasn't stuck?
Also, can anyone suggest something straightforward that can get SNR stats as my router isn't supported by Routerstats

Re: Question #77930724 No response

Have you actually tried RouterStats Lite? As it supports the 8960 there's a good chance it will work with yours. If it doesn't work straight off it shouldn't need much tweaking.
Edit: and if it doesn't work it's highly likely John would add the support. See http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/betatesters.htm

Re: Question #77930724 No response

The SNR reset showed as 'successful' but it doesn't look like your target SNR has dropped yet as that seems to be 6db.
I've just tried another one, so you may notice a disconnection shortly when it kicks in.

Re: Question #77930724 No response

That actually seems to have worked, your line is now syncing at 19544 with the target SNR at 3db (although the SNR margin is currently at 0.8db).

Re: Question #77930724 No response

If it's at 0.8db now, by the time you get home it is likely that you will have lost sync and the DLM might have put the target back to 6db.

Re: Question #77930724 No response

That's my concern at the moment, although the target is now at 3db I don't know how long it'll stay there.

We already know it varies by 2.2db!
I don't think this is going to work!

Re: Question #77930724 No response

Are we missing a perspective on this problem?  With a DS attenuation of 11dB he is less than 1 km from the exchange and ought to be seeing mr lie 24Mbs on ADSL2+ at 6DB.

Re: Question #77930724 No response

Plusnet had reset snr on my line to 3dB ages ago, I can't remember when was it, as I think it was Chris had successful reset my snr target 3dB from 6dB as I used to sync at 16419K. The lower snr I ever seen so far is 2.3dB nighttime while 3.0dB at day time. It remain stable on my line attenuation of 30.5dB. I was sync at 18,011Kbps as the traffic light was green on 3dB as stable. As for your line attenuation of 11dB with snr of 3dB should get u around 19120Kbps but the traffic light turn into RED mean unstable at 3dB. See the picture below to compare between your line and my line as your become unstable at 3dB and mine is stable at 3dB. I know it sound two faced on ADSL2+ compared with 11dB and 30.5dB line attenuation. As your 3dB could drop to 0.5dB but mine is staying at 2.3dB.
