Punishment ??

FEB  DETAILS on: 18/02/2016, 10:29
I have had serious  (no Service) problems with my broadband and phone and these have been fixed ,obviously to PN satisfaction but not mine I now have an I/P profile of 1.68 and a speed around 1.5 This is not good enough for me,as In January and over Christmas  it was 2.18 profile and speed around 2 I would like my profile raised to how it was in January They tell me  it is not  a fault  but this must be wrong  in view of my New Year performance  I would like to use i player and skype and was able to at new year
This was in Feb since then I have been trying to get improved speed but today I think I have been downgraded to something slower  My IP profile 1.34 I have had a stable connection and fear I am being punished for complaining as asked not to reply
TODAY

Download  Speed
1.32 Mbps

0 Mbps 2 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speed 1.32 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.8 Mbps-2 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 1.34 Mbps
2. Upstream Test:  -provides background information.

Upload Speed
0.36 Mbps

0 Mbps 0.45 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 0.36Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.45 Mbps

Your IP profile if i'm right is 88% of line speed, can you please post what speed the router says your synced at?
Also, put your number in https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm?s_cid=ws_furls_adslchecker and see what speeds you SHOULD expect

That's correct.
The line is currently in sync at 1514  Undecided
Unfortunately this is within the 1Mbps - 3.5Mbps estimate for the line.

Re: Punishment ??

Sorry you feel you're being punished, however we have no direct control over your profile. This is based on the sync speed between your router and the exchange and isn't something we define.

We asked you to monitor the line and get back to us after 24 hours if you were still having problems, we didn't say not to reply at all.

Re: Punishment ??

QUOTE  I have changed the settings for your line again to increase the noise margin as this had reverted back and have placed an order to try pin them to these parameters however if the issue reverts we will contact our suppliers have the settings hard pinned but this is not usually needed.

This has made my ip profile less than yesterday
I am not having problems other than not happy with the speed which has been better in the past

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Link Rate 1514 Kbps 446 Kbps
Line Attenuation 69.0 dB 43.8 dB
Noise Margin 9.5 dB 12.9 d
This is today Yesterday it was link rate of  approx 1900 and noise around 6 I dont have exact  This I think  is result of you increaseing noise margin

Re: Punishment ??

Normal noise margin target is 6dB.  Did Plusnet give any reason for slowing you down, for example an excessive error rate?  Although come to think of it if you did have a high error rate then DLM would be slowing you down automatically.  If you are able to pull statistics from your router we would know more.

Re: Punishment ??

That looks like a long line at 69dB.  Have you got all your internal wiring up to scratch, connecting the router at the master socket and using a decent microfilter?    What sort of router do you have, ideally you want to be able to see error rates over time,, although some routers don't make that easy.      In my opinion you should be pressing Plusnet to justify the change to 9dB target, they may have a good reason but it's not stated in the quote that you shared.

Re: Punishment ??

Netgear DGND 37002 v 2 My wires are  direct to main BT socket fixed by them and  OK For some time I have been trying to get them to help me get a slightly better speed to enable i player and do some on line business I am not sure why the 9 target as it was  going fine at 4 and 6 This has just reduced my Link rate from around 1900 to 1500

Re: Punishment ??

Error rate at 6db target (24th Feb): MTBE (Downstream) 77
Error rate at 3db target (15th March): MTBE (Downstream) 49
Error rate at 6db target (28th March) : MTBE (Downstream) 163
Error rate at 9db target (29th March) : MTBE (Downstream) 22

Even with the SNR up at 9db, the mean time between errors (MTBE) is very very low. We could reset the line back to 6db again, but simply put this is going to increase again automatically due to the errors on the line.

Re: Punishment ??

Just to be clear, higher MTBE is better.  Taking those figures at face value means the current line performance at 9dB target is worse in terms of errors than a couple of weeks ago even on 3dB target.  Are the figures taken over 24 hours, or are they just 15 minute "snapshots"?
To put it in context I believe MTBE needs to drop to 5, calculated over 24 hours, before DLM would act to slow the line down, is that correct?  (see http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/DLM.htm#DLM_categorising_the_line)

Re: Punishment ??

No problem.  MTBE that Plusnet were quoting, is "Mean Time Between Errors", measured in seconds, hence a high number is good and a low number bad.  MTBE is what BT use in their systems to automatically slow down poor connections, and (grudgingly) speed up good ones.    The figures Plusnet gave fall in between, neither good enough for BT to speed you up automatically, nor bad enough for them to slow you down.
