Profile differences

Hi
I'm trying to understand after some issues with the DLM reducing my speed the differences between BTW and the Plus net quoted line speed.
My BTW test (Attached) indicates a IP profile of 19.82 hence a sync sped of 20.50. However the Portal reports my line speed of 19.8 very small difference but why ?
(Earlier post refers and closed ticket)

Re: Profile differences

The Plusnet profile is BT IP profile rounded down to the nearest 100kbps

Re: Profile differences

isn't the difference in the Sync speeds 20.5 - 18.8 = 700kbps or are you saying the "Line Speed" as quoted on PlusNet is not the line speed but the IP profile ? It never was before ?

Re: Profile differences

The actual wording is
Quote
What does "Current line speed" mean?
The speed shown above is based on your sync speed. This is always a little higher than the speed at which data will actually be downloaded over your broadband connection
which is factually correct but clear as mud
Actually it is based on the IP profile which is 88.2% of sync speed and this has always been the case although on 20CN the IP profile was calculated differently

Re: Profile differences

IP profile is .987 of Sync speed not 88%
However is that figure on the Portal Sync Speed or IP profile?
In either case it doesn't match the BTW test figures so one must be out by some degree morte than 100kpbs !

Re: Profile differences

You are getting confused
The figure you quote 0.987 is actually 0.968 and is applicable only for FTTC not ADSL
For ADSL it is 0.882 as I stated
By the BT test figures I assume you mean the speed test result as this is always a bit lower than the profile
I have previously explained how the Plusnet profile is calculated

Re: Profile differences

Perhaps your confused by my post I'm on FTTC not ADSL.
Hope that makes the query clearer.

Where are you seeing your sync speed?
Former Plusnet Staff member. Posts after 31st Jan 2020 are not on behalf of Plusnet.

Re: Profile differences

The BT picture you posted gives the IP profile not the sync speed

Re: Profile differences

By taking the ip privilege from the btw report as attached and applying the .967 factor. This also ties with an earlier support ticket that confirmed a similar line speed.
It's not a major issue I was interested in why there's a difference.
