Re: Problems with IPlayer & Unlimited & Value

Spoke too soon! Franz Ferdinand won't come back on and I tried to Wireshark another program (Guitar Heroes) and it is now 0x60, although working fine at the moment... I have no idea what's going on, but at least you've got some feedback from my end...  Wink

You'll need to do an ipconfig /flushdns first.

Re: Problems with IPlayer & Unlimited & Value

Does this mean that anyone not using Plusnet's DNS servers could get the wrong shaping?

Nope, separate theory. I know why the traffic is missing the sig now and subject to change control plan on rolling out tomorrow. What I'm trying to understand is the reason it's doing it and why most people are unaffected and those that are keep seeing the problem. The content is served from Akamai so I'm trying to work out how the Akamai content server you are directed to is selected. One theory is down to load balanced DNS based on geographic location from the IP address making the DNS lookup. So if you use OpenDNS DNS servers for example would you get pointed at a different Akamai mirror than using our DNS servers? But then when the actual stream begins does Akamai/BBC correct this. We see in the Wireshark that you are pointed at a particular server address which has multiple IP addresses associated with it and depending on where you do the DNS lookup you'll only get a subset of the IP addresses returned but when you start the stream the XML contains an IP address to get the stream from. If the IP address you have cached for the lookup of the server above matches the IP address in the XML and it's served over port 80 you'll see the 0x60s, if they don't match or it's port 1935 you don't. The change I'm planning for tomorrow should make it irrelevant if they match or not but we don't know if the match is coincident (and therefore unlucky), by design and for everyone else it's not working or if it's happening just for a small subset of people because of something peculiar to them (e.g. different DNS servers, particular browser/OS/something combination).

Change control has done the rounds and a Service Status has been posted here.

Re: Problems with IPlayer & Unlimited & Value

i did that a month or 2 back wen i first started haing this problem. i tried W7 RC on ie8 and FF and also vista ie8 an ff. there was some instances where it would give me 0x80 but i could never replicate it with sucess. i tried cleacing caches left right an centre and i never found a fool proof system to get 0x80.
am going to hunt for the posts i made on this if i find them i will post the link
right my posts where i started to try browser settings ect start here in the first orginal iplayer therad when it was thought to only effect me on 21cn http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,76296.msg613426.html#msg613426

Re: Problems with IPlayer & Unlimited & Value

I think he wants you to try that again in the light of the recent changes made.
