I was sent a PowerDown plug free of charge by e.on I have just used it today it swithes off all the stand by lights when you switch off the computer,it also switches off the router my only worry is my computer is of for 12 hours a day will my router connect being of for that amount of time.I am all for saving energy.

I wouldn't use a PowerDown plug on your computer and internet equipment. If you want to switch off your PC, do so without powering down your router. Use a switched distribution board where you can selectively cut the mains supply to the PC and each peripheral. Routers are designed to be "always on" and they don't use much power.
