Possible broadband speed issues

Hi,
Since maybe Thursday or Friday the speed of my internet access has almost come to a halt wiyh pages sometimes taking minutes to load, where they previously took seconds. I am trying to load pages I have accessed hundreds of times before (BBC etc) and they are taking ages.
I have looked on the forum for anyone having similar issues but I can not seem to find anything.
Anyone else had these problems?
Many thanks.

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

Yeah, the BBC site is so slow it's almost unusable.  Sometimes it's taking 30s to load a page.

Not just BBC.
Tried independent, the times online, plus net site, football365 etc
Most seem to be taking an age!

I am also noticing timeouts sometimes on PN web pages.  After a few clicks of reload, it normally is OK.  I don't usually experience problems like this.

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

Hi,
There's nothing that we're aware of that would cause these things.
Anything more specific?

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

Nothing I can really put my finger on.  Just more timeouts than I would usually expect to see.  It's being going on for about a week now.  It affects web sites and streaming.  I've seen issues with ebay, google, bbc, and PN web pages.  It's intermittent and OK right now.

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

When it happens next can you run a tracert - it may be related to this problem http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,79576

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

I just had a reocurrance of the problem.  It could not contact any of PN's DNS servers.  The problem went away before I could do a tracert.

C:\>nslookup
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 212.159.13.49: Timed out
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 212.159.13.50: Timed out
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 212.159.1.53: Timed out
*** Default servers are not available
Default Server:  UnKnown
Address:  212.159.13.49

I'm sure I've seen another thread with the same problem, but I can locate it right now.

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

Have you tried any of our other DNS addresses, or is it just that one?

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

I have three DNS servers configured.  Does nslookup only try the first?

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

Where did you get 212.159.1.53 from?
It does try the first, then the second and then the third.  I'm not sure why it's failing though.
Does anyone else see the same problem when trying to do an nslookup?

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

Is 212.159.1.53 not a DNS server?  I can't remember where I got it from, maybe here. Wink
The problem keeps coming and going every few minutes.  It lasts only a short time (<20s).

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

Bob didn't recognise it, so probably not Smiley
Primary DNS Server 212.159.13.49
Secondary DNS Server 212.159.13.50
Optional tertiary DNS server 212.159.6.9 (212.159.6.10 also works)

Thanks.  I'll update my settings, in case this makes any difference.

Re: Possible broadband speed issues

I have run a speedchecker and just got a download speed of 2675 kbps.
This seems a lot slower than I expected !
Still running slow though. I have run virus, spyware, adware scans etc and they are showing nothing at all.
Any more ideas?
