Poorly slow

I have had to switch off my modem router each night as I had a child in my small room ,there was no problem connecting in the morning but it was mostly at a slower speed and I have had to switch on and off to improve that, consequently I have lost my internet speed such as it was , I know I can get a higher speed , but feel there is something wrong, but not at my end I have raised a fault ,but fear the automated system does not work and get little response after asking loads of questions My figures are here, any help  or constructive observations appreciated . My Dsl connection rate has been  from 1280 to 1400

Re: Poorly slow

Hiya,
Can you try rebooting your router and trying again?
It looks like you've recently been moved back from 500Kbps to 1000Kbps IP Profile from BT.

Re: Poorly slow

The line failed and then rebooted by itself at around 400 and I have disconnected a couple of times and have 1056  and this has been much better in the past, but download speed now 358 !!! Is it best to reboot or just pull the telephone plug ?? Thanks

Re: Poorly slow

If you synced at around 400 it's likely BT have lowered your IP profile (which will restrict your throughput).
If you run a BT speedtest again it will tell you for sure - or you could see what it says here - you'll need your PN login.
If it has been lowerd from the 1000kbps you had before it can take up to 3 days to go up again (provided that you maintain your 1056 sync you'll get a profile of 750).
However, if it keeps happening, it would be worth checking out your phone wiring etc. (is there a filter in every socket with a phone/fax/answer machine/Sky box pluged in?) You may also need to test at the master socket by removing the bottom half and plugging your modem into the test socket revealed behind (if you don't have the new type then remove all extension wiring and phones and plug directly into your master socket).
For a full explanation see here.
This is also worth a read.

Re: Poorly slow

Well this is a little better but my profile has been reduced to 700 while my sync speed is better, I am always tempted to pull the phone wire out to look for a higher sync speed , or should I just leave for a few days    Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.

Re: Poorly slow

Increased default noise margin - and with that line length it will never come down again

Re: Poorly slow

Hiya,
There's a simple truth that you are right on the edge of being able to receive a broadband service at all.
I do completely understand that you did use to receive a higher speed service, but the chances are that the conditions in your area have changed, now meaning that your noise margin is higher.
We can get BT to investigate this for you, but chances are that if we get them to send an engineer, you'll be charged £144+VAT.
They will probably also refuse to drop your target noise margin based on the length of your telephone line.
The only thing I can really suggest is to try getting an iPlate or an ADSLNation Filtered Faceplate, which may help to reduce the amount of noise on your line.
I'm sorry that this isn't really great news, but unfortunately it's a fallback of trying to stretch the most out of a copper pair on an aging telephone network.

Re: Poorly slow

Thank you ,but I already have a filtered face plate, I will see what happens I understand I have now got interleaving on so will not switch off the modem my 8 grandchildren have gone and my computer room no longer a bedroom. I wonder if I could try a fresh modem router ,any suggestions for the longish line Kind regards  E

just pull the telephone plug ?Huh

Dont ever do that - when your router powers down it sends a "dying gasp" message to the DSLAM.
Disconnect your router too many times - particulary in that way.. will cause the DLM to think your line is instable so it will increase your target SNR..  which will in turn reduce the maximum speed at which you can connect.

That sync speed looks about right for a 63dB line with a target SNR of 9dB.

I have done much better

I wonder if that was when you were on a 6dB profile?
As mentioned above its not impossible that the DLM may have increased your target SNR due to frequent disconnects.
Unless you can keep that line stable for a period of time, then as mentioned it may be a hard task to get a 63dB atten line reduced back down to 6dB

Re: Poorly slow

Seems to have disconnected this morning, now my speed is 238 down 370 up which seems the wrong way round and awful  My Netgear DG834 G v3 has software v4.01.28 would it be any advantage to upgrade this, with the latest 4.01.37 ,actually I,m half afraid to do so as it may be beyond my ability
