My download speed is acceptable, however my upload speed is really poor. Across numerous tests on http://www.speedtest.net over the last few days, my download is reported to be around 4 - 4.5 Mbps whereas my upload speed is consistently around 0.03 Mbps.
Is this really an acceptable upload speed?
As per http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html, I've tried to include relevant information below:
Router Stats
Maximum Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,220 / 8,480
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,128
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/MB]: 0.00 / 75.80
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 8.5 / 19.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 28.0 / 7.0
BT Speed Tester
Download speed achieved during test: 5392 Kbps
Acceptable range of speeds: 600-7150 Kbps
DSL Connection Rate: 8128 Kbps (DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile: 7150 Kbps
Current Line Speed
Estimated line speed: 7Mb (This may vary between 6Mb and 8Mb) - Checked on 2011-04-26 23:22:27
Current line speed: 7.15 Mb
Do people think that I should be expecting a higher upload speed?
Thanks,
Ian

Upload speed should be over 300kbps (0.3Mbps) so it looks like there is a fault on your line. Have you tried a different filter?
If you do a quiet line test (dial 17070 and select option 2) using a corded phone do you hear any noises?
Edit: What Software release is on your router? That is shown in the Thomson Gateway Information box on the router homepage at http://192.168.1.254/. If it is 8.2.7.7 an update to 8.2.7.8 might fix the problem.

Hi spraxyt
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I've just swapped the filter for an alternative and the poor speed remains.
I don't hear any noises on the quite line test using a corded phone - should I?
I have a Thomson TG585 v8 and the software release is 8.2.7.8.
Thanks,
Ian

Drawn a blank from all three 'tries' then. The quiet line test should be quiet.
Is your connection to the router wired or wireless? And what version of Windows is on your PC?

I'm on Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro laptop over a wireless connect. It's not the laptop - my wife experiences the same issue with her own laptop and I use mine at work on their wireless network with no problem.
Should I be contacting Plus.net directly?
Thanks,
Ian

I think raising a slow-speed fault at http://faults.plus.net/ is probably the next step. That process is tailored to download speed problems, so answering the questions might require a bit of imagination.
To help clarify what the problem is I suggest adding an "additional information" response to the resulting ticket stressing that low upload speeds are the problem.

Hi ismunday,
spraxyt is spot on above, if you put details of your speed test results in the additional info section we'll get it investigated for you.
