Hi over the past few months my speeds have dropped from 1.5 meg to 200k which is a nightmare. Ive checked my sockets and router and all seams to be as it should be. My lines never been able to support more than 2meg and i understand and i suppose accept that, but i dont understand why i cant even get over 1 meg speeds, its like being back on 56k modem.
Ive dropped a support ticket in, id be greatful if plusnet could look into this and try and get my speeds back up.
I would like to download updates for my pc but ive got those on hold as i struggle to load basic internet pages
What is my profile btw? for my line.

You say you raised a ticket - did you do that or did you follow the fault reporting system http://faults.plus.net
Why not have read here and post the information requested - it may help diagnosis http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,96155.0.html

Check this first......
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ make a note of the result
then check this......
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ ; make a note of the name of the gateway....
power off the router for 15 minutes
then power up....
Go back to
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ ; .... .... see if it has changed
then do another.....http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/
Post the results.
you will need to log in on here....
https://portal.plus.net/index_nlp.html go to..... MY ACCOUNT .... go to.... Connection Settings....go to High Speed Broadband....to see your current speed...
(You will also find "Broadband Fault Checker" next to it on the left.... should you need it !....)

I don't recommend doing any of the above until you posted the information I requested.
Certainly do not power off the router as the speeds you are seeing are so low that they can't be down to a congested gateway which is what shutter is suggesting may be the cause and powering off the router may make the problem worse

When I was on a "slow line speed" of about 1.2 meg, and the Mybroadband speedtest showed my speed had dropped, in exactly the same situation as the OP... I used to do exactly what I said , and it worked for me, every time. I never expected to see more than the 1.2 meg.... but slow loading pages and "hanging" were the main indicators that I needed to check my speed, and changing the gateway always improved the speed back to my previous "good" speed. It never made the condition worse.

The only reason that would work is if the Plusnet profile was the cause and your line needed a disconnect/reconnect to the Plusnet systems to trigger the new profile.
If this was the case then disconnect/reconnect using the router function without disconnecting from the exchange would have solved it.
It is most unlikely that this is the cause and that is why, before doing anything else the checks requested in the link I gave should be done as switching off the router may make the automatic systems in the exchange either stop the IP profile increasing (on 20CN) or imposing a higher noise margin or banding the line in 21CN

Hi bernie53,
Looks like the profile has jumped back up to 1750kbps, this is matched on our side so things are looking alright? Please let us know if you're still seeing the slower speeds.
