Poor speed under contract

Up until March or April of his year, we had great of 18mb speed on our line we have been with Plusnet now for quite a few years.

But since March April of the year it started to slow down, so I done all the usual things change wires reboot routers until I am sick to death of doing all that, so in July we got an engineer out done this and that, changed wires over etc replaced again the master socket 5C type MK4 it helped still not getting the 18mb we use to get

Had a second engineer come out, done all the testing, line clean as a whistle.. Have been told by an ex retired engineer that the gear used by BT sends out one ping wile my computer sends out 4 pings at a time, hence they get a nice clean reading, how true that is or what difference it makes I know not, nor do I care.

Had a 3rd engineer out, line clean, 18mb,, capable of 20mb etc, then I ran a speed test with the computer which is wired to the plusnet router, it showed believe it or not 11mb, then he went to his van bought in his laptop and done the same speed test to btwholesale site and it came back at 4mb using my wire from my computer, he then unhooked my patch cable from the system plugged it back into his test gear and it showed up again at 18mb duff router he declared, the one as the engineer 7 days before had open and taken out of the box and he the engineer broke the seals and plugged it in.

Engineer number three, told me he would recommend a new enhanced router "some thing that plusnet don't have nor do for non fiber customers" so NO new router coming to me nor did he write that down in his report

Today, it is creeping along... So my 2 year contract with plusnet which does not run out until December 2019 is now null and void I paid my phone line one year in advance, which I will let run out and will not renew it, nor brd-band

From the screen shot I took trying to log on here, fast ain't it  (NOT) and that is me logging into here

Re: Poor speed under contract

Hi @DavMcCC

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your speeds.

he then unhooked my patch cable from the system plugged it back into his test gear and it showed up again at 18mb duff router he declared, the one as the engineer 7 days before had open and taken out of the box and he the engineer broke the seals and plugged it in.

Sorry, just to confirm - the engineer himself gave you a new router? And left it in your premise?

I've just tested your circuit today and can see your router is syncing at 17.9Mbps, which is within the Estimated Speed Range our supplier has provided for your line.

I see you said you tested via a wired connection - how do you run you day to day network, is that over Wireless or via LAN cables?

Thanks,

MoR

MasterofReality

Just to confirm, that engineer number 2, opened a brand new ADSL router and plugged it in. Not me, he did it, the router in question was a new one sent out to me from plusnet, I think some time in August, after I told you (plusnet phone person) not to send me out a new one until I done more testing.

From the master socket to the router is about 9inch gap, from the router to the computer 2inch gap with the wire contacting the 2 and the wireless is switched OFF.

Yesterday when I read your reply on here, which was painfully slow to get to, and no I had not logged in to the forums to make a reply at that time, I in fact done a screen shot and give up and walked away until today.

As you can see from the screen shots how slow it was yesterday and again today, there is nothing else plugged into this router today, but I will have to plug back in son's xbox after this post.

Re: Poor speed under contract

And todays screen shot:

Have to make 2 posts for one reply ? ... not good.

You say I have 17.9mb speed, yet my screen shot shows some thing very different, and that today is a good speed to get

Where is the 17.9mb at then ? Openreach must be hiding it some where.

Consider this,  Think of you water tap inside your house (the internet) plenty of water, out side you have a broken tap with just a dribble of water coming coming down your hose, no mater how many times you blow down the hose it is fine, no blocks in there you will still only get a drip, drip of water due to the broken outside tape. What do you do fit a new hose or replace the tap ?

Contract with plusnet which is due to end December 2019 is now. Null and Void.  due to the fact I have had 3 engineers out and still not getting what I used to get nor what the line test shows.

By the way, I run a Linux Mate computer system hence I can look at what is happening to the system

@DavMcCC for what it is worth you can add multiple images to a post (use the picture icon, on the editor) and quote sections of a previous post so you can address the points raised.

Re: Poor speed under contract

Sorry to hear you're having issues with your service.

The sync speed your circuit is in sync at(17994kbps) is different to your actual throughput which can be affected by many factors.

As the BTwholesale speedtester isn't wholly reliable(There's a pinned topic around these parts about that), can you run a speed test at http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest please?

From 31st October 2022, I no longer have a regular presence here as I’ve moved on to a new role.
