Re: Poor latency-help

I found this
http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/belkin_commands.htm
and clicked on the first link and this is what I think is required?
ADSL
Type - Interleave Path
Status - Showtime
Downstream
Data Rate(Kbps) 8128
Noise Margin 9
Output Power(dBm) 11
Attenuation(dB) 123
Upstream
Data Rate(Kbps) 448
Noise Margin 27
Output Power(dBm) 3
Attenuation(dB) 160
I hope thats of use?

Re: Poor latency-help

Yes... but those attenuation figures are just plain wrong... Are you missing a decimal point perhaps?
Can you try the netgear and see what it says as I don't believe what the Belkin is saying.
Note this does show you are interleaved. It would show fast path for non-interleaved.

Re: Poor latency-help

Actually I think in common with some other routers the attenuation figures are probably just reported without their decimal points (might be stored internally like that).
Whilst the router says interleaving is "on", since sync speed is 8128kbps my guess is that interleaving is actually set to "auto" but the interleaving depth is 0. That means the effective setting is "off".

Re: Poor latency-help

Peter- that's the figures it shows it doesn't have decimals.
I know interleaving was set to Auto when I first joined but I was told the buffer on my line was good so it could be turned off. Ever since then my line has never ran as good as the first week.
Also I'm not sure that this has anything to do with it but i switched from orange and at first i didn't point the router at my plusnet ssid etc. I couldn't use my laptop etc but my xbox still ran which the plusnet advisor couldnt understand.
This is when it was best. I'm pretty sure it wasn't still orange as they were terrible and I should have been cut off from them

If the attenuation was 12.3 surely the noise margin should be higher than 9. My sync is 8128, attenuation is 20 and I have a noise margin of 11.
Something is far from right!

Were you using the Belkin router on Orange? If so I'm wondering of one of the settings might be wrong (e.g. PPPoE selected instead of PPPoA).

Re: Poor latency-help

No I only switched to the belkin last Saturday to take the router out of the equation.
I'm pretty sure both the netgear and belkin were set to PPPoA but I will check this when I get home

Re: Poor latency-help

OK - probably a total red herring then.

Re: Poor latency-help

Hi TerryCTR,
I've managed to now place the order to have your interleaving set to fast path. This will take effect on Monday. Unlike auto this cannot be changed by DLM and so we can be certain that there is no interleaving on your line. I have emailed you confirmation of this.

I just checked and the Belkin is set to PPPoE - I take it I should change it to PPPoA?
The netgear was set to PPPoA

Re: Poor latency-help

Hi Terry,
We do use PPPoA but in saying that I connected a netear to my line and it chose PPPoE itself. I'm not sure what affect this night have had though.

Re: Poor latency-help

I changed it to PPPoA, its running just the same as before so doesnt appear to have any effect.
My router is still showing I am interleaved, i know you said this will take effect on Monday but I seen in another thread that it could happen before then - it would be handy to have it kick in tonight to see what difference it makes

Re: Poor latency-help

HI Terry,
When we place an order it has to be scheduled for the next working day and as it was Friday, Monday was the earliest. Have you noticed anything today?

I won't be able to play online until tonight, I will let you know how it goes, fingers crossed.
Thanks
