Poor download speeds

Hi - I seem to be getting poor download speeds again.
I ran the BT speedtest with the following results:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 14842 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  1044 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 11000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2291 kbps

Everything seems fine with my router I have a Noise Margin of 6.1 and the synch speed is as shown above (14842 kbps).
The speed test on the Plus Net site backs this up giving me Download speeds of  2447kbps and upload of 892kbps.
I usually have download speeds of about 10.5 to 11.0 Mbps.
Any ideas why the speed should have dropped.

Re: Poor download speeds

Hi Newb,
What sort of speeds do you get when using http://mybroadbandspeed.co.uk ?
The BT one is known to be a "touch" unreliable.

Re: Poor download speeds

That's what I meant by the speed test on the PlusNet site - around 2400 kbps
Can anyone help or should I raise a ticket with PlusNet?

Re: Poor download speeds

In evenings and at weekends - the PN guys are not here so often - but raising a ticket is always a good idea as well as posting here.
When you have the ticket number - post it back here - but don't quote PN CSC staffs full names

Re: Poor download speeds

Hi there,
Raising a ticket should always be the first port of call Smiley
If you get one raised I can then liaise with our faults team to find out what's going on with the fault.

Re: Poor download speeds

It looks like the same kind of problem Zimmer has: high sync, high profile but much lower actual throughput.
May not be the same thing, but perhaps worth checking.

Re: Poor download speeds

You are lucky to have such high speeds.  Since going on the trial in March I have only rarely had speeds of over 700kbps - this is despite raising/replying to tickets on regular basis. I have had three visits from BT Openreach engineers after which the Plusnet helpdesk has assured me that everything is OK.
I have also lost service completely for three separate periods of five days the last of which was restored 10 minutes before a BT engineer arrived - coincidence?
Managers at Plusnet ignore requests for information and cannot give any reasons for the low speeds or when the issue is likely to be resolved.

Re: Poor download speeds

its not problem affecting every one my download sppeds have allways been about right for my profile 21cn.
but then i assume am still using the new max preminum add on which i belive trys to give you 3mb thoughput 90% of the peak period on the BTw network so exchange problems on 21cn might not show up on my line as 3mb is around the best i get for my profiles anyway

Re: Poor download speeds

@Peterd
I'm sorry that you have been experiencing problems.
When we tell you that "everything is fine" we're merely passing on information from BT where they tell us that they're unable to locate a fault on your line.
It sounds like the engineer went to the exchange first, found a fault, fixed the fault and then went to your house to confirm everything was working.
