Hi,
Could someone check the IP profile for my line. We had engineers replace a length of overhead cable providing our phone 2 weeks ago which restored the phone line and the broadband speed went back to normal ~3800kb, past couple of days the speed has dropped again and the most recent BT speedtest gives the following:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.42 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.5 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :0.64 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.5 Mbps
Can we get the IP profile reset to check if the problem has resolved?
Thanks.

That isn't a profile problem
Can you post the stats from your router
attenuation, speeds and noise margin
If it is a Plusnet supplied router they are here http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?ce=1&be=0&l0=1&l1=0

The line needs a reset
The default noise margin is set at 15dB
I would wait for that to be picked up here
However something is adrift with the information you have provided
The first post gave the downstream noise margin as 23.8dB but the pdf gives it as 15.9dB
Is your exchange enabled for 21CN - this checks it http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/

Thanks is this something I need to do, i.e. reboot the router?
The line just dropped and reconnected by itself just before you posted the above.
Now synced at 3776kb but SNR is still around 15 and download speedtest seems to be limited at 0.45mb
Thanks.

Reset can only be done by Plusnet
What does the exchange checker say about 21CN
Download won't have changed either as you are on 20CN and the IP profile takes a day or so to pick up

Hi,
We are on the Kilkhampton exchange in cornwall code WWKILK
SNR seems to go up and down quite erratically.
This all started in the middle of july when we had a lot of noise and then lost our phone line, broadband was still active but the speed dropped all the way down to 0.5 from normally steady 3.5-4mb.
Engineers visited and diagnosed a broken pair further up the hill but couldn't switch us to a new pair as the overhead cable was at capacity.
They replaced the cable at the start of august and the phone line was restored, the ADSL gradually came back to around 4mb but has fluctuated since then often finding the router has resynced to around 760kb sometime during the night. Does seem weather dependent and its been very wet and a bit breezy here recently.
Our supply cable runs under some gardens about 75-100m before joining a pole and running in overheads all the way back to the exchange.
Could there be other problems in the supply cable other than those that we fixed at the start of august?
Have done quiet line test and it seems to be clear there is an occasional crackly every 45-60 seconds but nothing consistent or that you would confidently say is noise.
