Well my connection just took a dump on me again!

Have attached screen shots and log file.

I note in the first screen shot my speed has dropped massively.

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@DerekW

You've had two drops today

2023-09-04 13:52:36 [5] System: DSL Link Down, remote disconnect detected

2023-09-04 13:53:49 [5] System: DSL Link Up us/ds 19504/74443 kbps Type PTM Annex B

2023-09-04 19:04:28 [5] System: DSL Link Down, remote disconnect detected

2023-09-04 19:04:53 [5] System: DSL Link Up us/ds 19724/57271 kbps Type PTM Annex B

Which Openreach Master Socket do you have and is the TP-Link plugged into it?

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@Dan_the_Van

I have it plugged into the filter which is in turn plugged into the front of the Openreach master socket 5C

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

There can be problems with this type of master socket where the faceplate introduces noise to the connection due to poor seating, so as an experiment can you remove the faceplate and plug the ADSL filter into the test socket where the faceplate plugs in?

This will cause another DSL drop, but we'll know why this time.

Dan.

@DerekW

For comparison and reference can you post the DSL stats page from the TP-Link.

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

So what would the next step/steps be?

I can't just leave the master socket open like that with the router connected

There is obviously something going on, but what exactly?

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

I agree it doesn't look nice, be good to leave it for a couple of days as a test. If the connection drops again we know its something else.

If the Errors pkts starts to increase then it's likely to drop again.

My next suggested step would be to try the Hub Two you have.

@Dan_the_Van

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@Dan_the_Van @Anonymous @jab1

Good morning everyone!

Well things seemed reasonable quiet overnight, but there were some issues during the night/early hours - I note the LAN drops have started again, I have a new cable arriving today so I can swap out the old one.

After swapping out the cable should I leave it for another day and see how things go?

Or should I maybe try my Hub2 and see how things go? (Could my router be on it's last legs?)

I have attached screen shots and a log file

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@DerekW

Thanks for the update.

What is the device that is now connected to LAN3?

How many other devices do you have and what are they.

You'll notice after time some log entries will disappear from the system log this is normal for a TP-Link device as it happened to mine as well.

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@Dan_the_Van

My main computer is connected to LAN3 - It was on LAN1 and it was suggested I changed ports as it seemed to keep dropping out on LAN1 but alas LAN3 drops out as well - will try a new ethernet cable when it arrives to see if that helps.

The only other ethernet connection I have is my house alarm base station

I have 3 wireless connections, phone, laptop and iPad

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@DerekW

Which operating system does the main pc use, do you power it off or does the PC hibernate/sleep when not used after a period of time?

2023-09-05 00:28:59 [5] System: LAN3 link down
2023-09-05 00:29:01 [5] System: LAN3 link up 100 mbps

2023-09-05 09:28:30 [5] System: LAN3 link down
2023-09-05 09:28:33 [5] System: LAN3 link up 1000 mbps
2023-09-05 09:28:49 [5] System: LAN3 link down
2023-09-05 09:28:52 [5] System: LAN3 link up 1000 mbps

Something odd occurring with that connection, could be a cable fault
