Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@Dan_the_Van

The main computer is turned off overnight, the OS is Win10 Professional

When it was on LAN1 it was happening at all times of the day, whether the computer was turned on or not

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@DerekW , @Dan_the_Van  I may be wrong here, but do we have two issues here (1) xDSL drops - which, however don't seem to be affecting the connection speed, at the moment and (2) the (possible) cable link problem with the main PC?

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@jab1

I must admit that thought did cross my mind also - never rains but it pours and all that.

My other thought is the router is just acting all funky/about to go to internet heaven.

I suppose one way to rule some of that out would be to use a new ethernet cable on the main computer and re-instate my Plusnet Hub2 and see how things go.

Just to add the drops have at time affected the speed, a reboot of the router usually sorts out the speed issue though

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@DerekW I would expect the DSL drops to affect the speed as the DLM would 'adjust' to stabilise the connection. Maybe try substituting the Hub2 to see if it corrects that, but I would doubt it.

@Dan_the_Van @jab1 @Anonymous

New ethernet cable arrived and installed.

Should I still leave my router connected to the engineers socket? Or should I now replace the faceplate and see how we get on?

I have the old Hub2 on standby if needed

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

Just to add I have also set the DNS back to the default Plusnet ones

@DerekW

It would be nice to see a clear 24 hours without a DSL drop, but go ahead and change the LAN cable for now

@Dan_the_Van

We are at the 24 hour mark now, have attached images and log file.

Any thoughts?

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@DerekW

Looks like you changed the cable at around 13:20 and the DNS at 13:40 as the PPP connection restarted, which is what I'd expect.

So for 24 hours there has been no DSL disconnect.

I would leave any further change until the morning and put the faceplate back in circuit. With any luck taking it off and resetting may have cured any flacky connection.

However you are getting peaks in latency blue spikes, can you think what may be cause.?

@Dan_the_Van

Many thanks for all your help, it is very much appreciated.

If I run into similar problems after putting the faceplate back I will update this thread.

EDIT: No idea about the latency peaks, sorry

Thanks once again

That'll be because @DerekW  hasn't fixed the bufferbloat !

With regard to the bufferbloat/QoS - I will leave things as they are just for now

Initial setup of the TP Link Archer VR2800 "QoS" was described here -

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@Anonymous @Dan_the_Van

Did the QoS as suggested and although I go an A this time it also tanked my speed.

One of things that bought me here was slow downs in my speed and drop outs.

I admit I do not know a lot about all of this QoS stuff but having read a little I am wondering if I need it set up?

I do not game

I watch a few videos

Do a couple of zoom/skype calls a week

Emails and general browsing

When I have the continuity in my connection/speed I can do all of the above without issue

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

@DerekW

In the morning (its getting late) I suggest you try using the Hub Two, although there is no option to adjust QOS it might perform better than the TP-Link.

This my Hub Two.

Re: Poor Speeds And Dropouts

Can you post a screenshot of your bufferbloat test result, something like this -

This is my FTTC line with QoS settings close to what I suggested for you, however your line is slightly better than mine !
