Plusnet Why?

Plusnet why did you get rid of the Netgear WNR1000 it has an excellent WiFi range well better than 582n.
It had a guest WiFi option, it had a beautiful GUI, more customisable options.  Reports via e-mail, a wealthy WPS, excellent LAN speed as WiFi speed.
Its better than ugly technicolor thats worth £10.
I don't see why PN had to make it redundant. It may not of had ADSL port but great for fibre customers.
Can someone tell me why it was made redundant for fibre?

Re: Plusnet Why?

Hi there,
There was a number of reasons, but the best was that we had plenty of stock of the 582n and a good partnership with Technicolor, so when they were able to offer us a fibre firmware for hardware we already had plenty of stock of it made a lot of sense to go with that.

Re: Plusnet Why?

We actually compared the 582 and the Netgear with some WiFi tests and found that the 582 had better range and speed for hitting the 80/20 speeds.... 😕

2-1  Wink
It would be a more successfull business plan if Plusnet kept the Netgear rather than fobbing us with cheap routers that barely work

Re: Plusnet Why?

I have used both the 582n and wnr1000v3 (my model had the external antenna) and didn't notice much if any difference in the wireless range between them.  Neither was particularly great but then I wasn't really expecting it to be given they are at the cheaper end of the market.
I only use wireless for mobile devices and laptops where speed is not an issue so have no comparisons there - for devices where I care about speed/latency I use the good old ethernet cable!  Tongue
