It is free on Extra which is what the poster has
Quote from: ReedRichards Yes, but it isn't any good. And AFAIK you pay £2 per month extra to get it! Cancel.

Quote from: Oldjim If you are considering Kaspersky have a look here £11.49 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kaspersky-Internet-Security-2012-License/dp/B004YZRFDW/ref=sr_1_4?s=software... and you can use the key on 2013 with no problem. Just download it from here http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/internet-security-latest-versions
As of 30-11-2012 Kaspersky has gone up to £19.99 following the amazon link above.
That's a rather big increase in such a short time.
Does anyone know if Windows Security Essentials scans emails as they are received?
I use Thunderbird with AVG (paid for) at the moment, but am considering changing to Essentials when
AVG comes up for renewal soon. AVG pops up a scanning window as the emails come in - or is that just 'window dressing?'

See http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_scanning/does-mse-scan-e-mail/2b9dd412-...
Which confirms that as an email attachment is written to your computer all antivirus programs will scan it. I don't think emails are checked for links to malicious websites.

Thanks ReedRichards for your reply! Your link actually mentions that AVG are behind the times with this. I didn't expect it to check links to malicious websites, but I suppose they could add it if they thought it was justifiable, like the checks AVG does on Google search results. I'll try Essentials, I think. I can always check that viruses are being caught somewhere along the email route by using the EICAR test virus:
