Please help with speed and disconnect issues

Recently moved to plus net and connection ran at 10meg then got slower and slower and is now at 5.9meg. Connection keeps dropping every 12hrs with the longest uptime of just over 2 days with last disconnect this morning. PN say speed increase will not return due to poor sync rate and drop outs as DLM is constantly amending the line speed. What I would like to know is why the constant disconnections when line is very stable and the router stats below show higher down stream sync rate.
Please someone explain this to me.
DSL Connection stats taken this morning at 07:50am.

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

Those stats don't match what you are telling us unless you are measuring speed in a speedtest
Can you run the BT speedtest http://speedtester.bt.com/ and also advise what this says https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

Thanks for the reply and in anticipation I ran a test directly after taking the router stats using the BT speed tester and here are the results

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
Download Speed
6219 Kbps

0 Kbps 7150 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 6219 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :11713 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 444 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 15.08:22.88:62.04 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.
If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.
Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

In relation to the second part of info required this is currently stating
Telephone number:
01723******
Phone exchange:
SCARBOROUGH
Estimated line speed:
8 - Checked on 2010-05-15 17:11:11
Current line speed:
6500
But on the day of activation and the actual day of test the information read as this
Phone exchange:
SCARBOROUGH
Estimated line speed:
8 - Checked on 2010-05-15 17:11:11
Current line speed:
21000
jim:green phone number removed mod:end

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

The answer is now clear - your IP profile has dropped to 6,500 kbps which has been caused by a low sync event presumably related to the sync dropping you reported
Does this happen at a specific time of day or is it random

Not knowing what the discon was for this morning here is a list of the previous ones
Dear Mr Norton,
Thank you for your query. Once the connection has been stable for 72 hours the speed will increase. Here is a list of your connections for the past 7 days.

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

If I understand what you have posted correctly this is the relevant information
Session Started Session Ended	        Duration
00:45 27-May-10
05:38 26-May-10 00:45 27/May/2010 19:6:48
21:10 25-May-10 05:37 26/May/2010 8:26:53
10:29 25-May-10 21:09 25/May/2010 10:39:58
05:39 25-May-10 10:28 25/May/2010 4:48:11
17:02 24-May-10 05:38 25/May/2010 12:36:27
This shows that you are getting frequent disconnects as you say.
Is your router connected to the master socket and is it possible to try with it connected to the test socket
Which router are you using

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

Yeah thats right, the router is Thomson TG585v7 and it is plugged directly into the master socket with Mfilters from PN, no extension cables in use or secondary sockets in use at all.  Router stats after plugging into test socket

How long should this be directly connected to the test socket/

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

Assuming that there are wires attached to the bit of the faceplate you removed I would leave it for several days if possible. You can connect the phone via the filter as well.
Can you install Routerstats http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm and leave it running for a few days (you will need to leave the computer running as well) and it will allow you to monitor your noise margin and speeds

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

No wires attached to the faceplate I removed hope this is not a problem, I have downloaded he router stats program and will leave it running for a few days. how long do you suggest before I post the stats. And thanks for the help so far.

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

Do you have any other telephone points in the property - if you do that isn't the master socket
Regarding stats - hopefully after 24 hours when you will have seen a couple of re-syncs (or even more hopefully - you won't )

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

There's something a bit odd here. Given all those disconnects you would have expected the DLM to raise the target SNR to try and stabilise the line, however it doesn't appear that it has
Quote
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 28.0 / 6.5

Those FEC error rates are quite high though!.
Be interesting to see the results of monitoring with Routerstats for a while...

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

That makes it easier - no internal wiring to mess things up - you don't need to leave it attached to the test socket
Regarding Routerstats I can't help as I have a different router but you could try Routerstats Lite which should work out of the box

Re: Please help with speed and disconnect issues

it appears to be running just producing straight lines for noise margin and download speed at present so hope thats correct, bit new to all this as I have been living under a stone for 10 years...
