Platte Media

Platte Media appeared out of the blue on my desktop and I can't get rid of it. When I delete it, it always reappears! I ran my antivirus program and it dealt successfully with 3 Trojan horses but I still can't get rid of the icon from my desktop. I tried the same with my Documents and Settings but it is still there. I contacted the support team (always sooo helpful)who suggested I post this query on the Forum.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I'd really appreciate some advice ......

Re: Platte Media

Not sure myself, but pointers here:

If it is this, best of luck...
[EDIT]
Think your first point of call should be using system restore to get back to a point before you saw this appear.

Re: Platte Media

I don't think using system restore will resolve this to be honest - a virus will re-appear if system restore is switched on. IIRC
The best thing to do is to turn system restore off, then run the virus scanner, remove the virus if at all possible and then once the system has been confirmed clean, system restore can be safely turned back on.

Re: Platte Media

Are you getting any requests for payment from this company?

Re: Platte Media

Since this was posted, I went to have a look and the site mentioned
http://mbsvictims.org.uk/index.php?topic=6.0
is an excellent source of information on this disreputable company, and the way it works.
It has various methods of removing the "problem" which includes running AVG and anti-spyware, malware removals, etc.... the favourite seems to be prevx which is a link on some of the replies and although I have not been there, probably a good starting point....
The site  mbsvictims.org.uk is a forum site (similar to this one) and it is very helpful to those "in distress"....
Well worth a visit...... for advanced information..... and put it in  your favourites/bookmarks list "just in case"

Re: Platte Media

Fingers crossed - I've done it! Took me ages as I'm a bit wary of my computer especially the techno stuff but I followed some advice given on the mbs victims site and it worked.
Thanks again sooo much for helping a silver surfer!

Re: Platte Media

Glad to hear you are now "problem free" .... and a good recommendation for that mbsvictim site too....
